Our wonderful Balinese driver, Mr. Wayan, took us to the most beautiful beaches along the southern shore from Nusa Dua to Uluwatu. I traveled with my parents ( both seniors) and even though the beaches were a little too hot for us, but they were pristine and the water was refreshing. The car was very clean and roomy for our party of 3 with one person in front and 2 in the back. Mr Wayan was early to pick us up and promptly took us to the beach destinations Pandawa, Melasti Beach, but since we started our tour at 10:30am, by 1pm we were too hot for going to another beach, so Mr Wayan recommended a coffee agroculture center which was perfect for us because we learned about the Lewak "poop" coffee, local Bali crops, and sampled 16 different coffees, teas & cocoa from the northern Kintamani region. My mother was very into it. The coffee is very expensive, especially by bali standards, but we were happy to buy some to take home. Mr Wayan made sure we knew where to go at each destination, where he would be waiting for us, and whenever we were ready to leave he spotted us immediately so we never had to wait. We stopped by a great Balinese restaurant, Bejana, before we went to Uluwatu temple. At the temple, Mr Wayan took us to the best spots to take pictures in the temple and explained the Balinese Hindu culture. There were a number of steps on the temple so Mr Wayan made sure to suggest alternative walking paths safer for my parents. Most importantly, Mr Wayan warned us about the mischievous monkeys that steal eyeglasses! We were weary but didn't feel concerned until a monkey came up behind me and stole my hat. There was a gentleman working there that was ready to help unfortunate folks like me that had items stolen by the monkeys, so I did retrieve my hat, but immediately after, my mother had a monkey jump on her back as she was sitting and stole her sunglasses! The monkey took her glasses and started chewing on the ends, and tore off one of the nose pads. Shortly after, the gentleman was able to get the monkey to drop the glasses, and I was able to retrieve them for my mother. Mr Wayan waited in line for us to get tickets to enter the temple and also for tickets to the fire dance. There was a long line and many people arriving by 5pm. We arrived early (around 4) so we were able to take enjoy taking pictures without the crowds. Mr Wayan walked us into the show seating area and helped us find good seats. He recommended that we sit higher on the sides of the stage because the sun was still strong. If it wasn't so hot, It would have been nice to sit towards the center of stage to see the performance a little better, but there was nooo way we would have been able to sit facing the sun for the 1 hr before the sunset. Mr Wayan knew this was the better recommendation for us. He also suggested that we consider leaving 10 min before the show ended, and we are soooooo glad we listened to him! We were able to beat the crowds leaving the show and avoid being stuck in traffic getting out of the area. There was a little bit of traffic in the Jimaran area for dinner, but it was tolerable. Mr Wayan called in advance to let the restaurant know to expect us. We found parking easily because it was still early - around 7:15, and we had dinner at our table within 10 min of our arrival. Mr Wayan was a courteous and safe driver. He is knowledgeable about the Balinese culture because he is native to Bali and was happy to share his home with us. He was concerned for our comfort and enjoyment during our time with him. When I couldnt find my passport the next morning, he was already calling all the places we visited. (My mother picked it up for me without knowing) He also made great suggestions for other points of interest that we should experience while on Bali. We are already considering about booking another tour with him during our stay here! Thank you so much! What an excellent service by Darma! Darma was such a genuine driver who made us feel comfortable. He also kept us companied by speaking with us. I also like the fact that he was able to answer questions that I asked about the history of the country. He is also very protective of us at the Uluwatu temple when there were monkeys around. He gave us our couple time during meals and make us feel very comfortable.
