Overview

Visit two of northern Peru’s most important ancient temples on this tour from Trujillo to the Temple of the Sun (Huaca del Sol) and Temple of the Moon (Huaca de la Luna), which together make up the Huacas de Moche, aka Temples of Moche. With a knowledgeable guide, tour the site, staring in wonder at the size of the large temples and learning about their significance to the ancient Moche people. Stop At: La Huaca del Sol, Carretera Campina de Moche, Moche 13600 Peru

Upon arrival in Moche valley, we will be welcomed by a traditional family descendant of the ancient Mochica Culture. We will then visit the awesome Pyramids of the Sun and the Moon, the center of power of the northern coast of Peru at the time of the Moche. We will be able to appreciate the outstanding group of frescoes in adobe in one of the walls of the Temple of the Moon, disclosed by the archeologists. To finish, we will be able to see some artifacts and tombs of the Mochica Culture in the Huacas de Moche site museum, which displays a range of utensils and pottery of high artistic level.

This is not far out of Trujillo and a must see if you are in the area. Go to the museum first to get the historical perspective and then enjoy this relatively new excavation. Many uncoverings to see.

These ruins are very large and seeing the process of excavation and the many layers uncovered are especially interesting. Many of the paintings are very well preserved and impressive. Worth seeing.
