Stop At: Archaeological Park of Paestum, 84047 Paestum, Capaccio-Paestum Italy
The Greek temples of Paestum are some of the most stunning ancient monuments in Italy. Still standing after 2500 years, they embody the Greek ideals of beauty, rationality, and the sacred. This is a day trip to the bottom of the sea. You will have time to explore the vast site. Tomb of the Diver, terra cotta clay pots still filled with now-crystallized honey, and other treasures from the site.
These fertile grassy plains are perfect for nourishing the famous water buffalo of Campania, most likely brought from Sicily by the Normans in 1000 AD. And, luckily for us, close to Paestum is one of the region's top buffalo mozzarella producers where we can arrange to taste their wonderful cheeses, followed by a classic pasta from the area and a scrumptious, seasonal dessert

This tour was amazing!! After Aldo picked us up at our flat, we started with the Buffalo Farm tour. Then, we traveled a short distance to Paestum. We chose the private guide option and Maria was worth every penny and more!! A private guide absolutely makes the tour - otherwise, you're simply looking at ruins with no context. Maria made the entire site come to life through her trip through history. Unlike Pompeii, in Paestum you are able to see both Greek and Roman ruins all in one place. After the Paestum tour, we traveled back to the Buffalo Farm for a fabulous lunch. From the aperitivo to the pasta, everything was insanely delicious - as was the wine. We highly recommend the cheese sampler plate. Each of us had a different favroite, but all agreed that every single one was sublime! Warning - you'll want to take more home with you. We couldn't recommend this tour more! We hope you enjoy this tour as well as we enjoyed it!Our guide Mario was exceptional. If you've been to Athens, this is a great treat. You'll see 3 greek temples unbelievably intact, alters, and much more. It was such a treat to see both Roman and Greek roads and to learn the history of Paestum and the surrounding areas. Our guide, Francesca, was very knowledgeable. The Bufalo Factory tour was pretty amazing too - and of course the cheese was creamy and tasty. Our base was near Amalfi. Our driver Aldo picked us up and kept us entertained throughout the day. Everyone enjoyed the day. If you are looking to see ancient history beyond Pompei, I recommend this day trip.Marco was on time, polite, spoke good English. The local guides at each destination were also excellent. Enjoyed the tour!
