I have just completed a four day PADI diving course with Quicksilver at Port Douglas and have to say that the training provided by Jess, my instructor, was absolutely brilliant. She was totally professional, but with a sense of humour which made the challenging course a joy. She coached me through to certification and blended the training with imparting a knowledge of aquatic life on the Great Barrier Reef which added to the experience immensely. After qualifying, she handed me over to the care of Gordon for three guided dives which really consolidated the excellent training. All power to Quicksilver - an unforgettable experience. After being an avid water person since birth (surfing, snorkelling, spearfishing) and at the persistence of my fiancé, I finally bit the bullet and tried SCUBA diving on the Outer Barrier Reef day trip aboard Quicksilver 8 with DI Mitch. After being an avid water person since birth (surfing, snorkelling, spearfishing) and at the persistence of my fiancé, I finally bit the bullet and tried SCUBA diving on the Outer Barrier Reef day trip aboard Quicksilver 8 with DI Mitch. I got the diving bug. For most of my life, as an asthmatic, I was barred from diving and was understandably a bit nervous about SCUBA diving but as I soon met Jess, my course Dive Instructor, and Ian, who was on a bucket list trip of Australia, I was ready to take on the challenge of learning the skills. Jess has a very easy to understand teaching style that made the large amount of reading and videos from the E-learning translate into skills that I could pick up quickly and improve my confidence with the equipment and how to be a good dive buddy. Her ability to let Ian and myself work through our checks and skills in the pool helped with the many small mistakes we made as we were learning the correct procedures for safe diving. Being able to learn the skills in the pool helped me understand the difference that having a big metal object strapped to your back with affect my movement in the open water. Out in the open water was a totally different experience to the many years of snorkelling. Over six days of epic visibility, we saw garden eels, clusters of anemone fish, my first Moray Eel, a large blacktip shark in the open water (so cool), a few more small sharks, thousands of reef fish, barracuda's and tunas, the list is endless and awesome. I've now got the SCUBA bug very badly and this confidence has come from Jess and the other dive staff on the Poseidon and Silversonic. If you have any concerns about diving, talk to the staff and like me, you will be put at ease and thoroughly enjoy learning. I give the whole experience 17 out of 10 starfish :)Had an amazing time on the 4 day open water course. Had an amazing time on the 4 day open water course. My wife and I were originally unsure about the price given cheaper options in Cairns but in the end we are so glad we did the course instead and think it probably offers much higher quality dives and training. Our instructor Jessica was fantastic, very patient, clear and good fun to learn with. We were also very lucky to have a small class of just the two of us. Incredible variety of life on agincourt reef that we were able to appreciate, especially on our 2 "fun dives" after completing all mandatory dive skills. Would highly recommend the course!WOW what an experience. WOW what an experience. My new husband and I decided to start our honeymoon off with obtaining our open water certification and couldn't have been happier with the choice. The elearning online we had some initial trouble signing in but called the number at the quicksilver office and it was fixed. We found the content easy to follow and had a lot of knowledge we then utilised on the days in the water. The first day we met our instructor Jess and she was the most super patient and easy going person. Never made you feel like you were dumb when you forgot something and said that we were learning and that is going to happen. We spent a whole day in the pool getting used to all our gear and the skills we had to learn for the certification. This was crucial to our success in the big blue. The 2nd day we did 3 dives with skills and some sightseeing underwater with Jess there the whole time watching and encouraging. The 3rd day we had a few more skills on the first dive and then the amazing 2 pleasure dives at the end, where we put everything into practise and were able to just enjoy the surrounds of the underwater. This is the best place to learn to dive and also the best company and instructor to teach you. Jess we cannot thank you enough and I promise I will continue to practise that HOVER ...hahaParticipated in Quicksilver’s PADI Open Water diver certification course. Participated in Quicksilver’s PADI Open Water diver certification course. It is an intense 3 day hands-on (after elearning). The office were very supportive during registration , form filling and medical. Great indoor facility for training in the 4m depth diving pool. We were in a group of 6 participants with 1 instructor. Our instructor, Adam was knowledgable, patient and generous and all 6 achieved certification by the end of the course and we got to see the beautiful Great Barrier Reef while learning the skills.Completed my PADI open water course here with Quicksilver Dive and I couldn't have had a better experience! Chris and Adam are both amazing instructors, and the reef sites that we went to were absolutely stunning. Highly recommend these guys to everyone looking to try a dive course up here - 10/10
