I was all on my own when signing up to raft the Zambezi River. There were two other paying rafters and two guides on our raft. It was amazing and I highly recommend this company. I started and finished from the Zambian side and also got to walk on Zimbabwean soil without showing my passport! I debated so much about doing this for 4 days. The last time I whitewater rafted it was at least 24 years ago and was either in West Virginia or Tennessee. Now, at the age of 48, post Covid (or not as physically fit) and as a solo rafter (no family or friends with me), I had lots of worries. But I must have asked all the staff at the Victoria Falls Waterfront hotel and of course the adventure scheduling team members more questions than a 5 year old who is trying to figure out how something works. Mind you, I could not ask any of the other guests at the hotel because most of them were adrenaline junkies, backpackers and 20 somethings that have no idea that they might actually get hurt. Oh - and there are crocodiles(aka flat dogs.) We left for the trip right from the Victoria Falls Waterfront hotel. According to a quick Google search the white water rafting I experienced is the best in the world. And I am here having breakfast (included with the stay) and still pondering the amazing views, the adrenaline rushes, the friendly and very experienced guides, new friends, one friend, Bob, who is my “Devil’s Toilet BowI” companion as we both fell out of the boat on the same rapid named after an evil spirit controlled commode (no crocodile nibbles, but I did hit something with my feet while swirling in the toilet bowl so my story is gonna be it was a crocodile 🐊 😂). Other than getting over my nervousness, the most difficult part was the climb back out of the gorge. I didn’t take as long as the record holder of 2 hours to reach the top, but I wasn’t wearing a watch, so I just know it was a long, tough, steep climb that Zambian men carrying the equipment back up to the top made look like a jaunt. Photos and videos are included in the price, because really you cannot take anything other than what you are wearing. The rains here in Livingstone started the night before I rafted, so the rapids had changed overnight making us get several bonus or “on the house” rapids. The air temperatures dropped from the high 80’s to the low 70’s but the water was still warm, I am guessing 83 or so. I was stuffed into a life jacket, paddling up a boatload of body heat so, I stayed comfortably warm. I am ALWAYS cold, so this was another worry I had before beginning. The walk up the cliff helped me warm up enough that I only got a little cool on the drive back to the hotel through the local villages and I only got a little more cold while sitting in wet clothes as we reminisced over lunch. Later that evening as I sat down to dinner at the hotel, my server asked if I had seen the elephants swimming across the river. I jumped up and went over to the railing of the deck and was mesmerized. I did manage to get a few photos as I stood in awe with several other guests. There are so many reasons this place is one of the official “wonders of the world”. But I am sticking with my theory that this would never be as great if the people who live, love and work here weren’t a part of the experience. The locals are the best. Note: there are two guys staying at the hotel that are probably professional kayakers BUT not natives who are taking kayakers on tours and I cannot believe some tourists trust them. The Zambian guides have to be certified, trained in first aid, geology, history etc. They tell some great stories along the river and give loads of instructions as you go through each rapid. As far as I could tell by listening to the two white men kayakers with British accents talk, they had insurance to protect them from lawsuits, but no wisdom. My Zambian guides handed off a cold bottle of water they had available for their guests to a kayaker on this “other tour” because these other “guides” left their guests behind and scrambled up the hill quickly to get their snacks. I am so glad I took the risk and got the reward of this fantastic Zambezi River white water rafting experience. Take the plunge, it is worth it!These guys were excellent. They took care of us, we were all safe and I should have done a full day. WHEN I go back, I'm using Safpar again!

We had a great time on the Zambezi River. Emmanuel was our wonderful captain, manouvering the raft safely through the rapids 14 - 25. Still, we capsized at rapid no. 19, not unexpectedly but still a bit frightening for the first time. Rescue was easy with the help of the canoes and our companion raft. When we capsized again at rapid no. 24 it was already routine and definitely became part of the fun. But don't take anything on board, you will loose it... The team is professional and at no point did we feel unsafe. and Emmanuel took extremely good care of us. Overall it was an amazing exerience. The entire day was very well organized by the SAFDAR team. The outcome was a thrilling video for all of us to show and enjoy back home. The photo's and videos are also very professional. Best regards HaraldWhat a great experience and a must do for everyone visiting Livingstone. What a great experience and a must do for everyone visiting Livingstone. To the whole team that took myself and my wife out on the river to complete all the rapids from 1 to 21, thank you. You guys were amazing, namely Choongo(captain of the boat) never flipped us once! Dexter our rowing partner and saved us from flipping backwards when jumping to the front of the boat to weigh it down. Davis the man in the kayak to save us in case we fell into the water and last but not least Julius the photographer, thank you for the amazing video and photos. Thank you for an unforgettable experience and we could not have asked for a better team with lots of laughter. I highly recommend Safpar for an ultimate experience on the river. Really fantastic day rafting down the Zambezi. We did the full day rafting (rapids 1 to 21). Very professional staff in the capable hands of Boyd and his team. Pretty exhilarating but felt safe at all times and well looked after. Some of us went overboard, but were quickly retrieved by the accompanying safety kayaks. All in all a great day out. The hike up after rafting isn't too bad either. What a brilliant experience. Very professional service from start to finish. Boyd was unbelievable - 100% The Man. Together with Dexter and the rest of the team we had an experience beyond belief . Cannot recommend more highly !
