Great guides, exhilarating ride, safe and professional . The views of the volcanoes, when we could take our eyes off of the waves, were spectacular.

We did this on a perfectly clear day with azure skies horizon to horizon. The Rio Petrohue is a crystal clear river of glacial origins in a wonderful setting of lakes and volcanoes. The water is somewhat warmed though because it spends some time in a lake before passing into the river. Our guide said the river conditions were average but still the water flowed in great volumes. Once you are on the river the action is pretty much non stop for about 1.5-2 hours. You will do the paddling and get pretty wet as the raft plunges into some decent rapids. The operator provides all gear needed including helmets, wetsuits, and life jackets. When the run ended the operator served fresh fruit, empanadas, and some other snacks. I took this toward the end of a long ocean cruise that stopped in Puerto Montt. A bus was provided which took about an hour to reach the river. This was easily the best day trip I took in Chile. We went both kayaking and rafting with Ko'Kayak and cannot say enough good things about this group! We went both kayaking and rafting with Ko'Kayak and cannot say enough good things about this group! They were very thorough in getting our reservations set up and they were so helpful with getting us the right activities. We really enjoyed the kayaking - very mellow paddling in a lake near Lago Llanquihue where we saw wonderful birds - and the rafting - a very exciting trip down class 3 rapids on a beautiful river!! The guides were great, had good english language skills, and they were so nice and helpful on both of our trips! We felt very secure and safe with the service, everything was perfect! Delicious snacks at La Base afterwards kept us coming back that restaurant for two more days! This is one tour you definitely don’t want to miss. The staff was great and this trip offers just enough of a rush with some great views. The pictures they offer to purchase (really inexpensive) came out great!

Ko’Kayak truly deserves its solid reputation. Richard and Maria were quick to reply to my many emails, as I was trying to coordinate a 4-day trip to Parque Pumalín. Their communication was professional and direct, which I greatly appreciated. Sadly, the weather in that park was too dangerous for my scheduled trip. I was scrambling to find other options. Ko’kayak offered me a few options, so I paddled on a fjord on day and then 3 days later I returned and paddled the Petrohue. Both trips were spectacular. The two parts together is what they offer on their overnight trip, but weather required us to split it up. The weather causing for a cancellation of my 4-day plans left me without accommodations. Ko’Kayak suggested and help arrange for transportation to their friend’s place, Quila Hostal. That too was a super find. Paz was my kayak guide for both trips, and you can’t ask for better. Enthusiastic, pleasant, friendly, and super knowledgeable, we became fast friends. I plan to come back to this part of Chile and rent a place for a month or two sometime (hopefully soon) and plan to use Ko’Kayak again and again. Book tour trip with them and don’t worry about one thing!A great experience. Focus on safety and having fun. Not too strenuous and great fun. The staff were all friendly and had a great sense of humour. Really recommend.
