What to expect
Times have been tough! As Sonoma County reopens we believe it is more important than ever to get outside and get moving! So... Let us show you the gorgeous and rugged Sonoma Coast! We meet and begin kayaking in the small seaside town of Jenner. After a brief safety talk and paddling instruction, we hit the water and explore the beautiful Russian River where it joins the Pacific Ocean. Your guide will enthusiastically discuss the area's history, wildlife, landscape, seasons, and whatever else you can possibly think of. Questions are highly appreciated and looked forward to by our staff. The paddling is gentle and we keep our eyes open for a variety of wildlife including river otters, pelicans, osprey, and curious harbor seals. We will land on the beach and check out the ocean before getting back in the boats and heading back to Jenner. Your guide can offer great recommendations for other beaches and options in the area for you to continue your day of adventure. All gear used by guests is sanitized by our staff after every tour.
Stop At:

My fiancé and I had an absolute blast with Erik on bud kayaking tour. We learned about (and saw!) all of the wildlife, wilderness, and local history surrounding the Sonoma coast all while taking in the serenity of the river and ocean. Erik is a fantastic conversationalist, and made us feel at absolute ease going down the river with him. We would love to book again! This was an excellent tour! We got a private kayak tour to celebrate a birthday, which was so special. The river is lovely, we were protected from the open ocean so no big waves or currents, and there were a lot of different mini ecosystems to see from the kayaks. I would 100% recommend this tour...
This was an excellent tour! We got a private kayak tour to celebrate a birthday, which was so special. The river is lovely, we were protected from the open ocean so no big waves or currents, and there were a lot of different mini ecosystems to see from the kayaks. I would 100% recommend this tour (and I don't often do tours). Erik was an excellent guide! The best guides are the locals, he grew up here and shared with us all of the changes he has seen in the recent and distance past. He was super relaxed, fun, and knowledgeable. We happened to get very lucky with weather conditions, and saw a ton of animals. Afterwards Erik made recommendations on delicious food and live music nearby.Super friendly and super easy experience all around. We booked online on a Wednesday and showed up that Friday. Super friendly and super easy experience all around. We booked online on a Wednesday and showed up that Friday. Two guides- knowledgable, positive, easy-going. We loved Erik's commitment to the environment, honoring the wildlife, sharing history, and appreciation of Sonoma... While there are other tour companies in the area, we are so glad we chose Smart Tours. There were others who joined our family of 3 and it was just fine. Everyone was friendly and happy to be out on the water.Eric was a fantastic guide with a wealth of local knowledge. We were the only couple who showed and he still took us out. He was awesome. He would not even except a tip after the tour. We had some muffins in the car which he sis except, so maybe you can show your appreciation with food.

If you are in the area and want to relax and have fun at the same time…go kayaking at the Russian River (Jenner). You won’t regret it!The 3-hour kayak tour was a workout! We enjoyed spotting osprey, great blue heron, belted kingfisher, cormorant, gulls, and lots of pelicans. The guide was knowledgeable and looked out for everyone. We landed on a secluded beach and saw seals in the ocean. Great day - highlight of our weekend!
