The Hida region is well known as one of the best places to make sake in Japan since we have all 3 key factors for brewing: water, rice and coldness. Tenryo Sake Brewery started in Edo period (17C) and now it is representative of sake breweries in this region. They have won lots of awards not only in Japan, but in overseas and it is served in some high-class Japanese-style restaurants. At the brewery, you will see the inside to know more about ingredients of sake and the brewing process step by step. After the special experience, you will enjoy Tenryo’s sake. Depending on the season, they will offer you their best sake and you can find your favorite one. You can also understand the difference of flavors and how to drink sake.

A great afternoon tour with Dai through the small town of Hida-Hagirawa. Dai was very informative and happy to share his own experiences from life in Japan. We learned a lot about the history of the Gifu region and had a pleasant stroll though the town to the Brewery. Unfortunately the brewery office has been moved to temporary facilities next to the brewery. This did detract a little from the expectations we had. Apart from that, we were very pleased with the in-depth education into the process of Sake brewing. The taste of the Tenryou sake was excellent and we carried out several bottles at the end. We would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting the area.We had a fabulous couple of hours with Dai . I highly recommend you go on this tour. It was so informative. Dai was a great host! We were so glad we booked this tour. He is very knowledgeable about the sake brewing process and had one of the sake brewery masters there to answer any specific questions he did not know. The sake was delicious and it was so nice to have a baseline on the process before we did the tasting. Dai also provides some backstory on the Hida region of Japan which is where the brewery was. I've been to the Hida region a couple of times but always wanted to explore the surrounding towns. Been on the lookout for things to do and came across this site. So glad I ended up booking this tour. Dai-san was an amazing host who did his research and was able to explain and guide us through the town. You could tell he had a good relationship with the people and places that were part of this tour. The food was amazing but more importantly the explanation behind it. The miso was the highlight for me as the taste was not your typical miso you get at a grocery store. It had a lot more depth and was even paired with toast during our visit. It was also educational to see how it was made, something we weren't aware of despite eating it on a regular basis. All in all an excellent trip and highly recommend it to anyone wanting to venture off the tourist track. We will be back for more! The sake tour with Dai was very informative and felt very personal as we were the only two on the tour (possibly because Hida-Hagirawa was less touristy than the more commercial areas like Takayama). The sake tour with Dai was very informative and felt very personal as we were the only two on the tour (possibly because Hida-Hagirawa was less touristy than the more commercial areas like Takayama). Dai's English was excellent so we could understand the processes that go into making sake and also the explanation of the different areas and machinery of the factory. Would have been great to see the factory in operation but as we were there outside of the production window then it wasn't possible. Can highly recommend this tour with Dai.
