What to expect
This is a typical itinerary for this product
Stop At: Universidad de Costa Rica, San Pedro Montes de Oca, San Jose 20603 Costa Rica
We will visit the Campus of the University of Costa Rica, which holds some of the largest patches of forest in the San José Metro Area.
On our first stop, we will look for resident and migratory birds, incredible insects and amazing plants and flowers. We'll be talking about art, history, indigenous culture, and most of all, nature.
Then, we'll visit the main campus where we will be looking for sloths that live freely and hopefully even see the two different species that inhabit our country.
DISCLAIMER: This is not a Recue Center or Sloth Sactuary Tour. You will not be able to touch them, if found, the sloths will be seen in their natural habitat, which means most of the time they will be sleeping on the trees. Still, our experience is your best option at San Jose if you're a true nature lover.
This is a 2, 5h walking tour, some parts will be exposed to intense sunlight. Not a heavy walk, but please consider your physical condition

Uber took longer than I expected and I arrived late but Rodrigo waited for me even though I was the only one scheduled for that time slot. It was raining a bit, which I should have expected but was unprepared. No problem, Rodrigo lent me an umbrella. We did the tour even in the drizzly rain because nature doesn’t stop just because it rains. We saw sloths! Live in the wild sloths! And one of them looked at me! Well I like to think that’s what she was doing when she moved her head. He shared with me his past experiences working in a sloth rescue rehabilitation center where they would care for sloths that had fallen out of trees or been mangled by a dog. Rodrigo is knowledgeable and passionate about the natural world. He clearly delights in sharing this joy with others. The sloths were my biggest curiosity but we saw much more than just sloths. I kept laughing at myself because there are so many beautiful gigantic plants growing here that I can’t keep alive as houseplants back home. I learned so much and it was so much fun learning about natural Costa Rica. I give Oropopo Experience 5 stars!Luis was very passionate about the ecology and made it fun for us. He shared with us the unique features of everything from sloths to birds to ants!

We truly enjoyed our family tour guided by Gladys. We saw many different species of plants and animals, including three sloths sitting in the trees right in the middle of the university campus. Gladys was patiently answering all our questions about the wildlife, she let us use her telescope and even shared a bird guide book with us. I made the tour through the campus of the university of Costa Rica (San José) with Gladys (Biologist and Guide). We saw many different birds, I learned about them, about the trees and nature in general. And, at the end of the tour, we managed to see two sloth moms with their babies. Learned much more with Gladys than I believe to have learned in school. Besides Gladys helped me to take some amazing pictures with my cellphone through a telescope. These pictures will help to bring back the memories of this amazing walk. I definitely believe this is a “must do” while being in San José! Thanks again Gladys, I enjoyed every single bit of the tour!
