This was a unique excursion, starting with hundreds of flamingos up close in Walvis Bay lagoon. Then off road for an exciting drive along the seemingly endless beach of Sandwich Harbour past crashing Atlantic surf. Our affable driver/guide, Winton, then showed us what a Land Cruiser can do in the hands of an experienced driver; climbing the immense dunes to a scenic picnic spot for lunch of cold meats and seafood followed by sweet treats, and washed down with cold Namibian beer. After lunch a white-knuckle dune drive morphed into a game drive, spotting ostriches, oryx, and springbok. A quick viewing of the local salt pans and some birding along the coast back to Swakopmund rounded off an excellent day. Highly recommendedWe had a great time going out to Sandwich Harbor and Hans was a terrific guide. The lunch provided was excellent! We enjoyed the roller coaster travels across the sand dunes!

Out of all the tours we did in Namibia, this one is top on our list. Uwe is the best guide you could ask for and makes the tour both really exciting and incredibly informative. If you want to: take a roller coaster ride through the dunes, race the tide on the water's edge to reach Sandwich Harbor, have an amazing lunch surrounded by the peacefulness of the desert, and learn about the local wildlife and geography along the way, this is the tour for you. It was so good, and Uwe was such a fun and qualified guide, we wanted to go back the very next day and do it all over again. Thanks, Uwe!We had a great day with Uwe. After Uwe picked us up, earlier than scheduled to beat the tides, and explaining the necessary Covid and safety precautions, the first question that he asked us was “Why have chosen this tour”? We explained that we just spent five days at Sesriem because of our love for desert scenery but that this tour was the only chance we would have of actually driving on the iconic dunes of Namibia. From that moment Uwe tailored the outing and walked the extra mile to give us exactly that experience. As a guide Uwe is exceptionally knowledgeable about the history of the area and of Namibia, the geology and fauna & flora of the area, and of course the dunes. One gets the impression that he knows every single dune. During the day he spotted a jackal, springboks, oryxes and plenty of uncommon bird species. If you are a keen photographer (like myself) there is no limit on the number of times that he will stop or maneuver the vehicle to give you the best shot. Best of all he knows were good photographers want to go and may make a few suggestions. As a driver Uwe clearly has plenty of experience, even my wife who is normally a nervous back-seat driver (shame on you for thinking that is due to my driving) later said to me that she immediately sensed that Uwe knows what he is doing and that the outing would have a happy ending. As a person Uwe is a delight to meet and spend time with. Thanks Uwe for and unforgettable day and exceeding our expectations.
