My friend and I can't fault the service provided by Beachcomber Cruises. The office staff were very helpful as I pieced together the trip whilst in the UK. E mails were always promptly answered - and with much patience as I got my head round the logistics! In situ the boat trips and luggage transfers all went without a hitch. The onboard commentary and seal spotting were unexpected and enjoyable extras - and the free on board coffee much appreciated.During a walking holiday of New Zealand I decided that one of the walks would be a section of the Queen Charlotte Track between Torea Bay to Punga Cove. During a walking holiday of New Zealand I decided that one of the walks would be a section of the Queen Charlotte Track between Torea Bay to Punga Cove. I went to the office to book a ticket for the crossing for the following morning however I was told that they did not think that I would complete the section in time and that I should return next day and do a shorter section. Next day I bought the ticket for the Torea Bay to Punga Cove section with the pick up time at 16:30 and informed that the boat would only wait for an extra 10 minutes and if I was not there I would have to make my own arrangements to stay at Punga Cove for the night. It was not ideal conditions for the walk and I arrived back, very wet, on the Punga Cove jetty at 15:15 with more than an hour to spare. I chatted to several members of staff during the time and when 16:40 arrived I asked one of the staff there about the return Journey and was told that they had not been informed about the afternoon boat movements to Punga Cove, which is the usual practice if a boat coming. The manager rang the Beachcomber offices on my behalf and was told that I had been forgotten and to wait for further instructions. The next message was that a boat would be coming to collect me. Following the arrival and unloading of provisions for the resort I was returned to Picton. During the journey I was chatting with the skipper of the boat and it transpired that there was no pick up due from Punga Cove that afternoon on any boat manifesto. Arriving back late to find that the offices had already close I went back the following morning and was told that the person who sold me the ticket was off and nobody else could comment and to email the office. In the the email reply I was told that I was at fault for not being at Punga Cove in time?, a special trip was made to collect me? Looking back at the conversations in the booking office from the first moment when I was told that I would not do that section in the time and then informed several times that the boat would not wait and that I needed to make my own arrangements for accommodation for the evening I have the impression that it had been decided not to bother with a run to pick me up as I would not be there waiting. I would think twice about using this service and go else where.Beachcomber Cruise boat people and bag transfers on the QC Track were excellent. Beachcomber Cruise boat people and bag transfers on the QC Track were excellent. Friendly, professional, organised and all round good folks! One note: The maps I found opnline for the QC Track did not have the same place names or accommodation names on them as detailed on the website information - this makes planning/booking impossible without local knowledge - very frustrating!!! In the end I phoned Beachcomber Cruises office and they told me where everything was which helped me immensely - thanks Beachcomber Crew!!Our 4:30 pick-up boat casually showed up at 5:15 instead. The boats from the other operator seemed to run on time, but not these guys... This can be a real issue for anybody with plans for the rest of the day. Other than that, skippers seemed nice and helpful enough.

We booked the Ship Cove to Furneaux Walk, 15km of challenging walking. A one and a half hour boat ride through the sands to get to the start point. You are given ample time to meet the returning boat. The walk is amazing, a tough start, all uphill but a sensible pace with stops to look at the views it is really rewarding. Take snacks and plenty of water, nothing until you get to the end. Reward a cold beer at the lodge.Wonderful crew and views. Captains were so fun. Everyone should see that track. Don’t get lost. It’s impossible but I did 😄
