The reading is worthwhile as are the photos and objects and film about the amazing story of the crash in the Andes of the plane carrying the Uruguayan rugby team. The story is told with sensitivity and empathy and is an inspiring one. Well worth a visit! It seems that most people of a certain age clearly remember the Andes tragedy. It seems that most people of a certain age clearly remember the Andes tragedy. Some read the book as I did and were struck by the human quality of these young people facing all kind of obstacles, as well as great ethical challenges. I feel that the Andes Museum really is a tribute to the whole crash experience, to the survivors as to those who didn’t come back. Intimate details allow a very personal approach to the visit. There's lots of technical information too, maps, objects, silent witnesses of all kind. We were lucky the owner of the museum was around and kindly provided more details! Very special place, a warm welcome to contemplation … Thank you Sabine Chamonix, FranceWe discovered the museum on a walking tour of Montevideo. The exquisite display detailing the trials and tribulations of the team were very informative well displayed plus the insights of the owner made a brief excursion into a lengthy and informative visit. The owner occasionally visits Brisbane and has a excellent knowledge of the sport of rugby union. As someone not from the area, I had heard about the the Andes crash but didn't know very much about it. This museum has a really good selection of objects that were used during that time and brought back after the crash but also new items that were discovered at the site very recently. The owner is welcoming and will answer any questions you have, although the exhibit doesn't leave you with many since it explains the events well. Before looking around, you can watch a short video that recaps the event and includes testimony. After that you are free to take your time looking at the objects and reading timelines and letters. The museum itself is clean and comfortable. I definitely recommend making this a stop in your visit to Montevideo! It is a big part of Uruguayan history and well worth the time. This museum tells a story of how a team of young men most of who were just 20 came together to survive 72 days in extreme conditions in the high Andes. This museum tells a story of how a team of young men most of who were just 20 came together to survive 72 days in extreme conditions in the high Andes. Having come from Uruguay, they had never experienced harsh weather before. We had the unique opportunity to meet one of the survivors who provided us with two insights. The first was that your life can change in an instant. These young men thought they would be in Santiago that evening dancing with the girls before their rugby game the next day. The second was how their attitudes changed when they discovered the search for them had ended. At that moment they knew they would have to rely on their own resourcefulness to return home. This museum is a real tribute to these young men who are true heros. Don’t miss this museum in your visit to Montevideo.Very informative. Definitely made you experiance what they went through.
