The third day of the trip, we will start the trip about 5 am in the morning because the best time to visit the waterfall is at 7 am after the sunrise and the view of the surrounding will be clearer and not too bright for the color of the waterfall. And when you are lucky enough, there will be a fog /mist around the waterfall that makes your photo is more surreal.
We will drive about 1, 5 – 2 hours away from Lumajang town, the way to reach this waterfall is quite zig-zag so please prepare your own comfort. When you reach that area, you will be amazed by the view of this waterfall. Not also Tumpak Sewu Waterfall, you can also see Kapas Biru Waterfall. Both waterfalls are very famous for Instagram needs. But you must be careful due to the slippery path and traditional bamboo fence.

We had the BEST time with our guide Saipul and driver BangBang. They provided a totally customizable and private trip that allows you to fit in a ton of adventuring and I honestly wouldn't want to do this journey any other way. They handled all logistics for us, we just had to show up and explore! Saipul also showed us the best photo spots and was always willing to help take shots for us too :) This trip is not for those who love sleeping in and lounging around, but I promise you the early mornings are worth it for the views and experience! Pro tip to bring enough layers, a warm hat, good water walking shoes for the waterfalls, and plenty of good hiking snacks to keep you nourished during the morning activities. I opted for normal tennis shoes and they were fine but my friend brought hiking boots and was happy she did. Note that you'll need to bring/ pull out cash for all entrance fees to the park (and of course to tip the guide/ driver and pay for some meals, though breakfast was included.) Below was our itinerary, organized by the great Sofyan, who was super responsive to all of my questions leading up to our trip. Day 1: Surabaya transfer to Malang area - Jodipan Colorfully Village (we requested to add this on) - Homestay in Tumpak Sewu Area. The homestay was really adorable private huts that felt to us more like glamping than a homestay and had a lovely breakfast provided in the morning. Most of this day was spent in transit, though we had a break at the colorful village for an hour or so and also popped by a mall to pick up last min supplies (lots of snacks, hat) and a bite to eat. Day 2: Tumpak Sewu waterfall trip - transfer to Bondowoso town ( Ijen area). This day we 'slept in' to ~6am. The waterfall was just stunning. Such a beautiful morning followed by the best pancakes and iced tea. Take the long route to see the other side of the falls. And also if you're feeling brave, go up to the base of the falls for a nice cool shower! And go early to get the best photos before it gets more crowded (we only saw a few groups but arrived around 7am). Day 3: Ijen blue Fire trip - transfer to Bromo area. Wake up call at ~3am!! Don't miss the blue fire, it's a once in a lifetime experience if you're lucky enough to view it and you can only see it in two places in the world - Bromo & Iceland. Bring cash to tip the sulfer miners if you want to take photos. What they do every day is really incredible. If you're tired on the way up, you can pay for them to carry you up the incredibly steep hill. At first this sounds terrible but it actually provides an amazing source of income for them - it also enables folks with disabilities or limitations to experience the wonderful views at the top. It's pitch black when you arrive and with some time, you'll catch some of the most amazing views of your life. They provide the masks and headlamps for you as well as tips on how to get up/down to the blue fire in the dark. Day 4: Bromo sunrise trip - Transfer to Surabaya airport. Another early morning wake up call - I think ~4am this time! I was expecting this day to be not as impressive as the day before but I was definitely wrong. Bromo sunrise was so stunning, and even better was the horsebike ride that we took across the canyon. It seems like the horses varied in temperament, but I got lucky with an incredibly responsive horse who was as eager to run as I was :) The view from the top into the volcano was so cool we could've stayed for hours. The photos were INCREDIBLE from here. Another once in a lifetime view. Optional trip: Madakaripura Waterfall - cherry on top of an awesome day but fine to skip if you need to for timing. We flew out of Surabaya (not Bali) in the evening and our flight was ~8/9pm. We probably could've done an earlier flight at around ~6pm or so... maybe even ~4-5p if we'd skipped the Madakaripura Waterfall. Thanks so much team for this trip!!We did the Ijen, Tumpak Sewu, and Bromo tour in February 2020. Each of the 3 sites brought a unique experience. We did the Ijen, Tumpak Sewu, and Bromo tour in February 2020. Each of the 3 sites brought a unique experience. We were not able to see the Blue Fire (there was an accident that delayed our arrival at Ijen), but the hike and sunrise were spectacular. Tumpak Sewu waterfall (and the adjacent Goa Tetes if you have time) were incredible. The hike down and back up were doable, though not recommended for people who are not in good shape. Mt. Bromo sunrise -- and the crater itself -- were absolutely stunning. Our guide and driver (Andre and Ricki) were both incredible, going out of their way to provide a great time for us. Andre took our specific requests into account and provided ample photo opportunities -- as well as taking some photos of his own. Ricki's driving, both in the early morning hours and the afternoons on our travel to the next hotel were outstanding. He was both safe and efficient in navigating the traffic in East Java. Sofyan, in the office, was very easy to work with and accommodating with our booking. All in all, it was a wonderful 4 days and I would highly recommend this tour with Java Adventure Trail. It was one of the best we've had in our travels around the world!Sandy windy so remember to wear a mask. The view is nice the weather was cold. The crowds started to leave after sunrise and that was the time for me to enjoy taking photo enjoy my own time with the beautiful mountain.

We took up the 4D3N package for Mount Bromo - Tumpak Sewu - Ijen Tour. Pre-trip liaising with Sofyan was smooth + fuss-free. He attended to all our inquiries swiftly and provided timely updates over WhatsApp. Over the past 4D3N, we made great memories thanks to our tour guide, Ari, and driver, Fait. We were pretty worried pre-trip as this was our first time climbing overseas but Ari made us feel that we were in good hands. He was very attentive throughout the climb and always checked back in on our condition. Hike up and down Ijen was challenging and we had a small mental breakdown midway due to the steep height and rocky + slippery path. Ari assured us and extended his hands, bringing us down slowly and steadily, which we are super thankful for him. Throughout the trip, we never felt rushed or tied down by time as Ari always give us the time to take all the photos we wanted before leaving the place. He also ensured that we were ahead of the crowd to 'book' the best spot for photos. He would take candid shots of us without us knowing, which is sweet and kind of him. Not forgetting to give us time alone to enjoy and take in the view when we reached the peak. We could feel that he truly cared for us and wanted us to enjoy our trip fully without leaving any regrets. Also, he is knowledgeable + super humorous HAHA we enjoyed listening to his sharing without feeling bored out! Fait, our driver was punctual everyday and he drove safely, which is very important. On our second day, we had to take the longer route from Malang to the Ijen homestay area due to the flooding situation at the original route. The total car duration was close to 12 hours and we were thankful that Fait drove safely, overtaking cars smoothly and fast enough for us to reach our homestay to rest for 3hours before our Ijen Hike. Kudos to Fiat for his effort and safe driving! In all, we managed to complete the 4D3N tour of Mount Bromo, Tumpak Sewu, and Mount Ijen thanks to Ari and Fait. The view was unforgettable and the experience was 1000/10. Everyone should give this tour a try and I would definitely recommend Java Adventure Trial and our lovely guide, Ari to all my friends!!A trip to remember! A trip to remember! The whole trip was planned very well by the company. All the drivers were always on time for picking us up, they were very kind and the cars were comfortable. A big praise goes to to our tour guide and drivers, Andre and Bam with whom we spent the majority of the trip. They picked us up from Surabaya station and we immediately felt comfortable with them. Andre speaks good English and he explains the next steps and gives information as the trip goes along. Andre was also very helpful with taking pictures and we really enjoyed his company during the mountain trips. We chose the homestay options which also welcomed us and they offered good breakfast too. Highly recommend this company and this trip. Thank you from Kristina and Steve :)
