Loved our tour guide Dana who was a wealth of knowledge on plants, bear awareness and tactics and was so friendly and approachable that my boys said that chatting with her was the best part of the trip in addition to the opportunity to build a fire. Building a fire and shelter was fun and we all learned something as a family in the process. The registration and entire process was easy to book and was walking distance from the lodge. There is a little cafe at the shop which we wish we had learned about and would have preferred to support vs the lodge and hotel chain itself. The length of walk was just right for my 12 and 13 yr old. I would like to rate 4.5 stars but there isnt the option of half points. The -0.5 is mainly associated with the overall cost for our family of 3. As withthe kananaskis conservation fee, the hike alone would be quite costly. Recommend doing a few events/bookings to make it worth the while.Excellent Family Hike with our Tour Guide, Claude! Dayna and Chelsea were amazing guides on our adventure. They brought local heritage and ecosystem knowledge together with great storytelling, tailoring the experience to our skill level and making it relevant to our 8 year old son. They made us feel immediately welcomed and ease, using a meandering hike to teach us about medicinal and edible plants and basic survival skills. Their expert guidance has made us feel more confident to create a shelter, build a fire, and use nature’s bounty to survive. Especially notable was their ability to draw on their own experiences and knowledge of the local area to share insights beyond our expectations.
