We just returned from a combo 7 day safari and 7 night Zanzibar resort stay, all arranged by Roy Safaris via Susan Wood of A-Way-To-Africa Safaris. It could not have been a more wonderful, well-organized and personalized experience. Our private safari guide, Frank Nnko, was incredibly personable, knowledgeable, and flexible. We saw more animals in the first 3 days than most people see in a week, including jaguars, cheetahs, giraffes, and more lions than we could count, many so close we could almost touch them (although of course we didn't!) Frank found the big 5 for us- including the extremely rare black rhino. Frank cleaned our vehicle several times during our safari, just to ensure as comfortable a trip as possible for us. We really could not have been more satisfied. The accommodations in Zanzibar were downright luxurious and if you want the most beautiful sandy beach and clear, shallow, warm ocean water, do treat yourself to the Royal Zanzibar Beach resort. Roy Safaris was recommended to us by friends who had booked through them several years ago and we can now pass on that recommendation. Ask for Frank as your guide- you will NOT be disappointed.11/28/21 – 12/04/21 – Ngorogo Crater, Ndutu, Central Serengeti My wife and I had the trip of our lifetime with Roy’s Safari. 11/28/21 – 12/04/21 – Ngorogo Crater, Ndutu, Central Serengeti My wife and I had the trip of our lifetime with Roy’s Safari. We went of a 6 nights and 7 days Safari in the Serengeti and Ngorongoro conservation. Susan Wood is their American contact for setting this Safari up, and she was a tremendous help. She calmed most of my nerves and gave insights into different parks and where to go based on timing. She mostly communicates through email, and she is 1rst class. She even gave us the idea of going to Ndutu, which now has a permanent place in my heart. You get their and they pick you up in a small van and take you to the office. From there, you meet your guide and brief your trip. Nelson, the office manager is very nice and gave clear instructions for us. You get a print out of your itinerary prior to flying in. Clear instructions. I have never once had a vacation that went off without any problems, until Roy’s Safaris. Manny, Ema, or Emmanuel is an absolute expert and is full of joy. He absolutely made our trip the special trip it was. He is funny, lighthearted, reassuring, and an excellent game finder. With him and the Land Cruiser, I felt safe enough for any circumstance. During the low season, we got more of a chance to talk during meals, and he really took interest in us. His English is great, if that is a concern for anyone. While we ran into some guides who were cold, Manny was warm. You could clearly tell he had the staff and other guide’s respect. People along our journeys knew him and they exchanged smiles and laughs. This guy is well known for being great at what he does and friendly. In traveling, not many guides prefer to go to Ndutu, because it is hard to know your way around. In fact, a few other companies had guides who went to Ndutu with us and didn’t see anything. Manny knew Ndutu so well that we saw cheetahs, lion packs, nocturnal hyenas, and wildebeest crossing a small water hole. Manny knew Ndutu and those sightings were the most memorable we’ve had. Last thing about Manny, he cares so much that he photographed our reaction to seeing a cheetah so we can remember the moment. Great guide. Given we were very lucky to see what we saw, this trip was spectacular. It was planned and executed perfectly. They do like to debrief your after you trip, which does cost you some time on your last day. Pricing was great. Some Safari companies are out of this world expensive. Roy’s was not. When it comes to picking a company you want one with a good reputation, their own vehicle, and a great guide. Roy’s has all that and it’s fairly priced. If you want to pay extra for more luxurious lodges, you can do that while enjoying a great guide. I would do this trip again in a heartbeat. Roy safaris If it were possible to give more than 5 stars I would! Westerners are sometimes hesitant to book with a foreign tour company, however We specifically chose to go with an “in country”company to support their economy. After exhaustive research we chose Roy Safaris and I’m so glad we did! Communication prior to our trip and attention to detail was wonderful. The owner Sanjay personally helped design a safari to include all my many ( and occasionally changing) requests. The quality of the lodging ( both luxury tent camps and lodges) was first rate . And the Retreat at Ngorongoro was a piece of paradise rivaling any top hotel in the US. We were fortunate to have an amazing safari guide in Manny. A lifelong resident of Tanzania he excelled in knowledge of the country, the culture, and wildlife including birds. While his gentle manner and humor kept us entertained, he went out of his way to insure every aspect of out Safari was top notch . This was the trip of a lifetime with each day better than the day before! If you have the opportunity we highly recommend you put a hot air balloon ride over the Serengeti on your bucket list! At the close of our safari Sanjay was once again there checking our satisfaction, facilitating our COVID tests and arranging our airport transportation. We are taking home amazing photos documenting our trip but above all memories we will hold in our heart forever.I just want to give a pre-safari shout out to Roy Safaris especially Sanjay! We are leaving on March 24th for a trip that has been cancelled/postponed twice due to the Pandemic. I just want to give a pre-safari shout out to Roy Safaris especially Sanjay! We are leaving on March 24th for a trip that has been cancelled/postponed twice due to the Pandemic. It has been a very difficult time for all involved but the communication with Roy Safaris has been wonderful! Sanjay has bent over backwards to accommodate and facilitate our constantly changing dates over the past 2 years!!! Sanjay has responded promptly to every question and concern I put forth and done his best to arrange an itinerary that met all our requests. I am taking my son on a trip as gift for his graduation from college. Never did we think it would be planned for the start of the COVID crisis. I do plan on reviewing the trip after our travel, but during this time of uncertainty Roy Safari has gone above and beyond to allay our travel concerns and provide us with the most recent information /mandates. If this is any indication of their customer service I cant wait until the Safari begins!I rarely write reviews. However this time I do as it was definitely an unforgetable experience.
