We took a two week private tour of Georgia with a guide and driver , starting in the capital Tbilisi and then travelling East to Kakheti, the wine growing district, before heading North, up the Military Road to the high altitude resort of Stepantsminda in the Greater Caucasus Mountains. Afterwards travelling West to Gori, birthplace of Joseph Stalin and then to Kutaisi, Georgia's second city and finally the modern resort of Batumi on the Black Sea . A fascinating and stimulating trip, going back in time to the origins of wine making 8,0000 years ago, through centuries of wars and invasions, the Old Silk Road and the long history of the Georgian Orthodox Church, through the 20th century and the influence of the Soviet Era to the present day and the vibrant and developing modern independent Georgia. All this was made all the more enjoyable by our first class guide Ana and driver Lascha, who were not just highly professional but such good company. We learned so much and laughed so much too....until the next time !Beautiful historical city to explore especially their numerous beautiful churches, countless landmarks like unique houses designs, mother of Georgia, Bridge of Peace and etc. Love the Georgian food and the hot chocolates at Radio Cafe was creamy and taste like real cocoa, the best!
