If you'd like to understand Belfast people through their history, buildings and a really personal small group experience, Martin is the man for you. In 3 hours you don't cover a great physical distance but we found we learnt and appreciated so much. This is not a 'Troubles Tour' with peace walls and the sites of atrocities. Nonetheless it gives a powerful depth of background to the centuries of colonisation and resistance that led to the relatively recent conflicts. Our guide was erudite and even-handed, also proud of the technological and industrial innovations that helped make Belfast. Martin communicates like a great teacher with a phenomenal memory for names, dates and colourful details.Martin was very informative and had many interesting facts to share. We enjoyed the tour and there was never a dull moment. Highly recommend!

Exceptional tour with Martin—highly recommend! Martin’s wealth of knowledge and positive/engaging personality made this one of the best tours I have ever taken. He provided the history of Belfast and Ireland in a balanced, factual manner and also provided old historical photos that gave additional depth and understanding of Belfast past versus present. It was simply amazing to have a tour guide who actually grew up in Belfast and witnessed so much of the city’s changes and most challenging times. In addition to his wealth of knowledge and humorous stories, Martin was kind enough to do much of the tour in the shade because I did not have a hat, and it was a very sunny day! He also recommended a place to buy one (which I did at a very good price—thank you, Martin!) If you can only do one tour in Belfast, do this one—you won’t be disappointed! This tour gives a fascinating history of the development of the island of Ireland. This tour gives a fascinating history of the development of the island of Ireland. Martin is so knowledgeable but wears this lightly! He is very approachable, so that you can ask what may seem like an obvious question without embarrassment. We were taken to historic parts of the city and shown photos from earlier days. This tour is hugely informative, is delivered with panache and a light style. We really enjoyed it and would highly recommend spending the hours with Martin. The walking tour was brilliant. The walking tour was brilliant. Martin contacted us beforehand to let us know exact location etc to meet up. As a guide he was very knowledgeable, informative and humorous., giving a diverse and interesting tour about Belfast’s complete history from conception to current day. As it happened there was only the two of us on this particular tour but usually having six maximum makes the tour very personal. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour and wouldn’t hesitate in recommending to everyone. Book it you won’t be disappointed.
