We are a husband and wife from Australia. Aged 63 and 75. After the hustle and bustle of Tokyo our tour with Jeremy into the mountains and forests nearby was a highlight of our Japan holiday. He gave us a fabulous insight into rural Japan. Many hidden gems including cafes, temples, roadside stalls, mountain lakes, distant vistas and delicious noodles for lunch. Jeremy is very knowledgable, good company and we felt safe with him. Thank you J.We went out in the Chichibu Hills on a beautiful may day. We went out in the Chichibu Hills on a beautiful may day. Jey knows all the good spots in these mountains and took us sampling Yaki Iwana a local grilled fish delicacy in Kuroyama Santaki. Then we headed to Takedera (Bamboo temple) a quiet and peaceful Buddhist temple nested in a thick forest. We finally went to an ancient Korean temple with the graves of the princes of Goryeo from Korea who were given land by the Japanese emperor after being defeated by the Tang China army. We closed the day by visiting a Shinto shrine founded by the Goryeo princes. Jey is extremely knowledgeable about local folk stories, ancient Japanese history and local culture and he brings alive these stories from a distant past. Fascinating! i definitely recommend anyone interested in seeing the real japan, off the beaten tracks, to take a tour with Jey.I have done two trips with Jeremy now and I just want to thank him for his hospitality. I have done two trips with Jeremy now and I just want to thank him for his hospitality. I had no idea such places existed so near to Tokyo. I could try the local dishes including the iwana which was caught fresh and cooked on a stick but my favorite was the noodle restaurant high up in the mountains. Super cheap and delicious food with a real old atmosphere. I also managed to visit some temples on my second visit. Jeremy my guide was able to fill me in with a lot of the local history so I could learn a lot. Views were amazing and a lot of places to stop, talk to friendly locals and enjoy tea or coffee. Basically I had a great day out. Felt thoroughly refreshed afterward. I hope to do this trip again but next time with my whole family. It was great to get out of Tokyo to relax in a rural setting for the day. Jey was an excellent guide filled with in depth knowledge. Highly recommend taking this tour for a deep dive into the true essence of Japan without the tourist crowds.
