The day we went was 100% rain and very foggy and we could not see much. But Dustin managed to get us a gift card towards another tour. Great customer service! While the guide, Dustin, was very informative, the transportation was less than desirable The van had seats for maybe 15 but the seats were not wide enough and uncomfortable. there were a number of stops where the people were to get out of the van to look at the colors of the leaves. While the guide, Dustin, was very informative, the transportation was less than desirable The van had seats for maybe 15 but the seats were not wide enough and uncomfortable. there were a number of stops where the people were to get out of the van to look at the colors of the leaves. It was very difficult for some to exit and enter the van and that made the whole experience distasteful. Dustin, being local, provided a wealth of information about the Smoky Mountain area. He had wonderful stories and definitions of language used in the area. He said that he had scouted to find good spots for viewing color. He took us on the Foothills Parkway to a couple of overlooks where the views were great. He also took us to Elkmont, Daisy Village, I believe he said, to view the historic buildings. That did not seem to be in the description. The trip was scheduled to be five hours long. That meant he needed to stop for a food break and he picked a cafe in Townsend but had said that we could bring our own food if desired. Having a "picnic" at the cafe was not the thing to do. The only tables were at the cafe where patrons of the cafe sat and ate the food purchased in the cafe. I did not feel comfortable taking space where paying customers normally sat. The descriptin should specify that food can be purchased during the tour. The tour was acceptible only because of Dustin, who did good preparation for finding where the good views of colored leaves were, was the guide and provided much good historical and cultural information. We went the third week in October and saw some trees turn but missed the peak by a couple of weeks. We went the third week in October and saw some trees turn but missed the peak by a couple of weeks. The trip was still informative but we were disappointed to reach Clingman's Dome lookout but not be able to climb to the observation tower there because of time constraints. The traffic was so heavy that by the time we reached the dome we had to start back. We had assumed we'd stop and do the observation tower but the driver said that even stopping is not guaranteed. The tour started on time, the driver waited for everyone and then we took off! This tour is educational, but not slow or boring in any way. We had multiple stops for pictures/eating and two stops for hiking!! (Optional) The weather was perfect and the leaves just started to change. Highly recommend this trip!Although the trees were just beginning to change colors during our tour (the second week of October) Dustin did a great job of giving us information about specific tree specimens, several that were new to me. Although the trees were just beginning to change colors during our tour (the second week of October) Dustin did a great job of giving us information about specific tree specimens, several that were new to me. The hike to the tower giving a 360 degree tour yielded some beautiful sights & sounds of the smokies and the view from the tower was spectacular. We were able to watch/listen to informative and beautiful videos en route to and from the tower. Our guide interlaced personal stories of growing up along the route which were very interesting. This tour was thoroughly enjoyable. I would definitely recommend it!
Tour director was very friendly and enjoyed his stories and insight on the area. We had a delightful tour. Thank you Tennessee for a great trip
