He is professional and knows every step of the way, he is physically strong (sometimes you need his help in the trek), and over all- he is a very warm, sweet person. He is friendly, and we had some really interesting conversations with him. He took care of us from A to Z- equipment for the trek, making sure that everybody is satisfied with the pace and the food, sitting with us and singing near the bonfire in the evening... etc. We had an amazing time with him.We hiked the Last Mountains with Biniam as a guide, for 3 days and 2 nights in Woldia. We hiked the Last Mountains with Biniam as a guide, for 3 days and 2 nights in Woldia. We carried our own water and sleeping gear, and we ate what the local people ate (including injera made from barley), because we wanted to keep the trip as private as possible and the price low. Biniam will be happy to arrange it differently, as you want. It was a great hiking experience and a truly unique rural community experience, and I would highly recommend taking 2 or 3 days even if you hiked the Simien mountains already. The hike from Lalibela was interesting and when going back to Lalibela we saw a big group of Gelada baboons. The atmosphere in the authentic village was unique and peaceful. Pleasant to walk around. The round trip to Abune Yusef mountain is really beautiful, and definitely worth it, but be aware it's at least 7h walk. Biniam's English is good, and he's easily the most pleasant and honest guide we encountered during our 3 weeks in Ethiopia. We liked him so much we decided to help him in setting up a website and this tripadvisor pageI went on a 5 hour trek with Biniam to the monestaries on top of Lalibela. He was very friendly, kind and helpful when whenever we needed anything. Super good service, and good english. Top Marks.

We understand that Biniam is a great guide for trekking in the beautiful mountains and countryside around Lalibela, Ethiopia, but we didn't have enough time left in our trip to go trekking and my conditioning is a little lacking for that right now. But we did hire Biniam to take us to Yemrehanna Kristos Marbel Church about 42 km from Lalibela. It was a great trip and he was very knowledgeable about it. He is always sporting a genuine smile and he did a great job encouraging me to get to the top of the long hike uphill to the church. He never rushed me and encouraged me to rest all that was necessary. It isn't too difficult of a hike if you are in good shape, but it was strenuous for me. He was great as I struggled up the hill. Once there he proved to be very knowledgeable. Not only was he very knowledgeable, he was very pleasant at all times. On our way back to Lalibela he suggested we get lunch at Seven Olives and even strongly recommended what to order. It was a large sampling of very many dishes, both vegetarian and those with meat, all served with plenty of injera. He said it was large enough to share and he was correct on all things. It was the best meal we had in a restaurant in all our time in Ethiopia. When he picked us up at the appointed time we were nodding off, completely happy and satisfied. His recommendation for lunch was great! We then did a bit of shopping then went to his home where his mother gave my wife a cooking lesson. They made shiro which we had with of course injera. They also made coffee and we even sampled some of his mother's homemade beer. The shiro and coffee was great. I didn't care for the beer as much, but it was a real experience to sample it. Biniam lives in a real modest home with his mother. It is a wood and mud two room house with dirt floors. She cooked over wood in the front room. It was smoky, but it was a very authentic experience as to how many of the locals live. Their house was very humble, but their hospitality was fantastic. In order to add income to help support himself and his mother, he would like to add a room to their house and rent it out to travelers. Due to the humbleness of the accommodations his price will have to be low. In my opinion this type of accomodation will not be for everyone, but for those intrepid travellers that want an authentic experience at a low price, it will appeal to you. I wish him all the best. He and his mother are very sweet wonderful folks. Good luck Biniam!Me and my friend contacted Benjamin when we were in Lalibela. For a decent price, he took us to an amazing trek over the mountains.
