We have travelled extensively but this is one of the most wonderful and humbling experiences we have done. Maereg is a amazing person to show you the highlights of the Wollo and Lalibela. The interaction with the communities and the landscapes are without equal. The accommodation is basic but stunning at the same timbering perched on the edge of the escarpment with breathtaking views. Slow traveling at its best . Maereg is quite possible the best guide we have come acrossThis has been one of the most memorable tours I ever did. This has been one of the most memorable tours I ever did. First visited the rock-hewn churches in Lalibela and the day after left for the eco-tour. Spent 4 days with 3 friends walking and visiting the amazing surroundings of Lalibela, great guides, welcomed from every community we had the honor to visit and talk with. A gentle and slow way to discover places and people.. Great experience!!We arrived in Ethiopia and after two days looking around the churches in Lalibela we headed off on a 4 day trek with Maereg. We arrived in Ethiopia and after two days looking around the churches in Lalibela we headed off on a 4 day trek with Maereg. We had never visited the country before and so were full of questions about anything and everything. Maereg spoke perfect English and his knowledge was really excellent about everything we saw on our trek. He was particularly good with spotting birds and knowing their names. He was very attentive, helping us and being there when we needed it, but also giving us space to sit quietly and take in the breathtaking views. He was fun, very polite and a truly excellent guide. If you go to Ethiopia, make sure you book him as your guide. We only realised how lucky we were when we heard horror stories about other peoples' guides who weren't nearly as good.We walked for four days through the most wonderful countryside, fabulous views, lovely people and with Maereg really felt we understood the culture and history of the area and people, he was a really excellent guide. We walked for four days through the most wonderful countryside, fabulous views, lovely people and with Maereg really felt we understood the culture and history of the area and people, he was a really excellent guide. The food was simple but good, the welcome at the community houses very friendly. We really enjoyed the trek and Maereg’s company, his knowledge of the bird life was very impressive. He also ensured one of our party’s suitcase appeared on the second night that had been lost in transit, some feat!I finally give my feedback about my experience! I finally give my feedback about my experience! I went in Ethiopia between October and November 2019 with I friend and we have choosen Maereg as our guide for a 4 days trek. We had a great time with him, personally I highly recommend Maereg as a guide for many and different reasons, below the most important: - first of all he is a professional and qualified guide; - he is very well prepared about the history of his country and about the flora and fauna you can see all around the trek (he is a birdwatcher and he can recognise all the marvellous birds you could see during the trek!) - he is a nice person to spend time (that is very important during this kind of experiences). I can add that the trek was perfectly organised, we really enjoyed the hospitality of the small villages in which we stayed, This is a perfect trek if you want to plunge into amazing landscapes, see typical and authentic villages and the amazing wildlife of this country (included the Gelada Baboons) Thanks Maereg for the great experience!
