Together with my wife we were visiting Costarica in November. We booked diving at Scuba Dive Costarica 1 day before it actually took place and team was very well prepared to welcome us. We were provided with fine equipment and great care from the team. Phil who was our divemaster carefully asked us questions about our previous experience and he perfectly adjusted pace to our needs. We felt very safe and also had a great time with all the team during short boat trip to Las Catalinas. Diving spot is also worth to be recommended. Marine life there gives you aquarium-like experience. We came across several schools of fish, sharks and fantastic eagle rays. We can recommend the place to anyone from beginners to dive masters - it's a great place to chill surrounded by marine life.Had a FANTASTIC time with Phil and his team. I called about a week prior and he (Phil- the owner) could not have been nicer and more informative. I knew this is who I wanted to roll with. Boat was fast and the crew definitely was experienced. Boat was fast and the crew definitely was experienced. We were all divers so no extra snorkelers on board which was nice. PADI dive master every 4-5 folks and they knew what to look for down there and we saw a ton of marine life that day including spotted eagle rays, puffer fish, white tip sharks, and really scored w a couple giant Manta Rays which seem to be pretty elusive this time of year. Great time with this outfitter and would dive with them again in a heartbeat- look no further!! Thanks guys!!Went for a week of scuba exploration in January, mainly to check out the Catalinas! Went for a week of scuba exploration in January, mainly to check out the Catalinas! I know, delayed review!! ;) The good: Communication and booking was super clear and easy, boat, equipment and crew were great! Saw a couple of mantas (YEAH!), many sharks, a couple of eagle rays (I like the bigger critters, so that was good!). The bad: Conditions were not good, very windy (normal for that time of the year, I was told). Made the (normally) short trip to the Catalinas sites rough and longer (60 vs 20min).... if even possible. Captain had to change sites once we had left on one of the days, so missed the Catalinas altogether to hit shore sites (which were.... quiet let's say). Would have preferred to stay dry for that one. Visibility was very bad (5-7m), so mantas were "drive-by's" to catch when they happened. White-tips being lazy dogs chillin' at the bottom were easy to check out though. If not for the conditions and the resulting trips, would have been excellent! But that's not Phil and his crew's responsibility. For what they could control, they did a very good job and I recommend them! :) Portrero is a quiet little town, car not required to dive, drink, eat. A nice place to dive and relax!I dove 2 days with Scuba Dive Costa Rico this past Feburary. It was a great diving experience. I emailed 3 dive shops before my trip and Phil the owner of Dive Costa Rico was the only one that answered my email. He runs a nice shop. He was very honest and accmmodating. I dove 2 days with Scuba Dive Costa Rico this past Feburary. It was a great diving experience. I emailed 3 dive shops before my trip and Phil the owner of Dive Costa Rico was the only one that answered my email. He runs a nice shop. He was very honest and accmmodating. He told me that it was the windy season and the diving was good but not the best of the year. He included in his email suggestions of close Motels, we already had out reservations elsewhere. We will stay at the recommended places next time. Phil picked me up at my hotel for the first dive, he was very nice and informative about the area and some of what the area has to offer. Phils dive crew was great, I would highly recommend them.3 days of diving in February 2020. 3 days of diving in February 2020. First 2 days to complete open water dives for PADI Open Water certification, group of 3 of us, youngest is 15. Phil set us up with all transportation to and from hotel, Phil is a real pro, owns the business and keeps it both fun and focused. Shout outs to Lacy, Javier, and Alvaro - our divemasters and teachers. You guys are rock stars! Lots to see under water, white tip reef sharks, eagle rays, octopus, massive schools of blue eyed grunts, and we heard the humpback whales singing while underwater. Strongly recommend this business. We hope to return in a different season and see what the ocean has to offer in September. We had a superb dive trip today with Lacy and crew. The entire experience was excellent, in every aspect. We had a superb dive trip today with Lacy and crew. The entire experience was excellent, in every aspect. Very involved, caring dive crew. Lacy was an excellent dive master. We experienced a varied and exciting array of marine wildlife, including manta rays, spotted rays, both green moray and stripped eels, white tipped reef sharks, and much more. The dive location we did was Las Catalinas, a 15 minute boat ride from Playa Potrero. We good diving conditions and flat seas for the boat ride, along with a very easy beach entry onto the dive boats. Cannot recommend this dive operation enough.
