Herds of elephants, water buffalo, exotic birds, magnificent scenery -- this safari had it all. Our experienced guide, Ravi Lakmal, made it all happen, and he did it with a sense of professionalism and fun. He picked me and our family of 6 up at our hotel in Galle in a well-equipped van. We traveled to the edge of Udawalawe National Park and stopped at an elephant orphanage. Seeing dozens of baby elephants being fed was only the beginning of what was to come -- the safari itself. We transferred to a jeep with a savvy driver who knew where the animals usually gathered. A typical experience was driving along a path with no animals in sight. Suddenly, around a turn, we would come up to a family of elephants grazing with a couple of babies. That was just one of the many experience that made the day so memorable. I had never been on a safari before. My expectations were high, and they were more then exceeded. Ravi was easy to communicate with, great to be with and was 100% reliable. He is one of the best guides I have ever found and couldn't recommend him more highly. My family and I can't wait to take the same safari again. An early morning pickup from my guest house in Galle, my driver Abi was waiting for me outside in the very comfortable car. An early morning pickup from my guest house in Galle, my driver Abi was waiting for me outside in the very comfortable car. He was polite, warm, and friendly. I had the whole tour to myself! We drove to the safari jeep just outside the park and my safari driver took over from there. He was equally friendly and very knowledgable about the history of the park, the animals, and where to find them. I was amazed at how many elephants we saw, and crocodiles, deer, water buffalo, monitor lizards, Macaque monkeys, and birds. My driver had even brought some tea and homemade snacks which we had while watching the elephants. Bottled water was also provided. The drive back to Galle was broken up by a few short stops at sights along the way, thanks to Abi’s local knowledge. I’m really glad I did this tour. Thank you very muchUdawalawe was beautiful, we saw lots of different animals as well as beautiful scenery. Udawalawe was beautiful, we saw lots of different animals as well as beautiful scenery. We saw multiple different elephant families up close, with the highlight being watching a number of elephants play in a lake. The driver of the jeep for the safari was great (from Lizard lodge tours?) and we definitely didn't feel we needed a guide as well as him. He knew where to find the animals at what time and had great knowledge about them all. The drive to and from the safari was comfortable and the driver was attentive. We weren't expecting the trip to be so seamless. Mr. Abey picked us up from Galle at 3:30am. I highly recommend you to insist on the early morning trip. The trip is about 3 hours long to the national park. The car was comfortable. We got switched over to the safari SUV in Udawalawe. 1. 1. It gets super cold in the morning at the national park. so dress appropriately. But also understand that the last 1.5 hours of the trip will be hot. 2. Leopards are a very rare sight. 10 times in the last 13 years, according to the guide, Ravi. 3. If you're hungry after the safari, find a good place to stop outside the national park. Don't stop at Niwahana (place recommended by the guide). The food was horrible. An absolute delight! We had the early morning pickup. The cab and the driver were fantastic. And our jeep ride to the safari and driver/ guide Ravi was amazing. Very punctual and careful about our requirements. We'd recommend this to everyone visiting this national park.

We were picked up by a wonderful driver on 30th March. The car had great air con and was very comfortable, the driver drove very well and showed us lots of great sights along the way without slowing our journey. He took us to see the elephant orphanage and then dropped us with our jeep driver and tour guide and waited a few hours for our return. I’ve separately reviewed the National Park and it was wonderful! The organisation of the trip and the pleasant company of the man who drove us were perfect. Thanks!
