Going on this cave kayaking adventure proved the best decision we made in the Belizean rainforest. It was simply a magical and unforgettable way to experience this amazing river cave system, in all its cavernous, crystallized, and stalactitic glory. We'd considered cave tubing tours, and spotted a couple of them launching into the water into the last leg of our route. All the guests’ tubes were tied together, and they were being towed along by a guide wading through chest deep water. It looked very passive, and though I’m sure the cave time was just as scenic, no way could it have been as fun. I would choose kayak every time. Our whole group was all smiles from start to finish. Expect a couple hours of fairly easy kayaking, with a maybe half mile rainforest hike between river openings, carrying an inflatable kayak ~15-20lbs. The portage section takes effort, but it’s not too tough. I’m in average middle age shape, not a gym rat, and I would have kept hiking twice the distance to get back into that cave river system. As a working travel writer, I’ve had the opportunity to kayak into sea caves, through redwood forest, and across alpine lakes. Nothing beats this. I can’t say enough good things about this tour, and our guides. One of the top travel experiences of my life.Absolutely the best tour I have ever done! Trust me I have done a number of tours. Going Coastal is a very professional company, beginning with Onie making reservations and answering questions. We were somewhat concerned about the portage due to our ages 60 and 65. The portage is not an issue in the least, it's basically a short scenic stroll carrying a light inflatable, the guides are very observant and offer help if you need it. We had Francis, Ronnie, Jason and Oscar as our guides, what a slick crew these guys are, friendly, helpful and extremely knowledgeable about history, environment and geography, was also very impressive to see how they cared about conservation and the environment, which is what makes Belize such an awesome country. Kayaking is my hobby and I have kayaked in many places over the past 15 yrs, this trip tops any excursion I've been on, just something so different about Kayaking through 7 miles of caves, this is nature at its finest, 100 % raw and in your face with scenery that you will not see anywhere else, memories of this trip will last you a lifetime. The Kayaking itself is easy and a beginner wouldn't have a problem if it was their first time on a kayak, with the professional guides accompanying you, you have nothing to worry about, just sit back let the river take you and enjoy this incredible one of a kind scenery, stopping halfway for a delicious cave burrito lunch. This has got to be Belizes best inland tour to do.I felt very safe and well-taken care of on this magical experience. The whole team was very professional. Thank you Elvis, Jason, and the whole team! The tour was relaxed and we took our time. The caves are majestic and Going Coastal Guides were very knowledgable about their history.
