We were a group of 9 people and we decided to visit Puglia in winter. We were a group of 9 people and we decided to visit Puglia in winter. The experience was fabulous as there were very few people around the touristic sights and the pictures you could take without the crowds were fantastic! On the other hand the weather is not that hot like in summer, but it's pleasant for walking and it gives you opportunity to indulge in the atmosphere of the small towns around the coast and the inner part of Puglia without being in a hurry for a shade. We contacted a local tour operator who organised a full day trip from Lecce to Monopoli, Polignano a Mare, Alberobello and Locorotondo in a day. The price was reasonable and we had a bus dedicated to us for the whole day. A local guide Feredica accompanied us - and she was great! We spent more time in Monopoli and Alberobello, while in the other towns we had an hour or less. It was really enough to discover the beauty of the places. I strongly recommend the full day tour from Lecce if you have limited time or you want to stay on the beach during summer time. This was a wonderful trip through beautiful countryside with visits to fascinating towns. This was a wonderful trip through beautiful countryside with visits to fascinating towns. Donatella, our guide, was knowledgeable and wonderful. An added benefit of this kind of tour is that the driver can drop you off and pick you up in the center of each historic town. If you drove by yourself you would have to park very far away in most cases.
