But Lee and Karen, with their chill approach and vast knowledge about the area made this first-time family adventure a positive one! We felt like we were shown our neighbourhood (we live here) by good friends. Karen was sweet to send us photos of ourselves in our kayaks after the experience—nice touch. What a different perspective when you are out on the water looking to the Island. We felt safe and had a memorable time. Highly recommend! We got lucky with a beautiful day and got even luckier with our guide Emma and our whole experience. Stop in to the Penny and Farthing pub in downtown Oak Bay after for great beer at an authentic pub.3 of us did a kayak tour with Janette Galan. 3 of us did a kayak tour with Janette Galan. When we booked the trip I did not realize it would just be the 3 of us and the guide - I was pleasantly surprised. Janette was friendly, highly knowledgeable and managed our diverse group (middle aged mom and 2 teenage sons) well. We saw baby seals and lots of wildlife. I feel like this was a far better value for our $ than whale watching and would do it again! We really enjoyed this tour with 2 lovely, kind, and well-trained ladies!! They lead us along Oakbay shoreline. Weather was perfect! a bit windy with bright sunlight. We were so relaxed and just felt wind Besides, The route they chose was amazing. Beautiful islands, mountain, mansions like a castle lol. and seals as well! We didn't follow the group well at the first time because my brother in law and I were not good at paddling. Whenever we had a hard time doing that, one guide helped us and cared about us. Thank you again:) I think they are very well-trained and have lots of the knowledge of sea life, this area, and kayaking. Every story they explained was so interesting and fun! We really get into kayaking after this tour! We can't forget the feeling and every scene. Thank you!!Went out with Shayla as our guided on Wednesday 5th June 2019. Went out with Shayla as our guided on Wednesday 5th June 2019. Slightly overcast and no winds on the day. So perfect conditions. However, the knowledge of Shayla of the area, the kayaking tips and the overal good condition of the Delta Kayaks were all amazing. I have done a few short tours before but rate this experience as the best I have had out in a kayak. See map insert re the route we took. I was very impressed with the Delta 15.5 GT, myself being used to my own Wilderness 140 Tsunami. The kayak was very stable and easy to control over the small waves we encountered on the route. I can definitely recomment Ocean River Adventures for both experienced and beginners who just want a safe relaxing day out on the ocean with knowledgeable tour guides like I had. Thank you Shayla. Well done Ocean River Adventures.
