What to expect
arepas. For carnivores, there's no happier place than our next stop, a small whole-in-the-wall eatery which does nothing more than
lechona - roasted and stuffed suckling pig with crunchy, golden skin.
Our food tour has been carefully planned to give you an insight into every corner of Bogota cuisine. Your taste buds are going to thank you when you tuck into innovative modern twists on local
ajiaco soup and gourmet
ceviche accompanied by
aguadiente (local firewater) cocktails at this next tucked away restaurant. Continue on down through the streets of Old Town Bogota while our local guide recounts stories and history of the city. Famous among locals is this next bakery which has been producing fine snacks served with aguapanela since the 1930s.
Continue winding through the streets of central Bogota and stop en route to try golden
buñuelos, a deep-fried almost doughnut-like pastry paired with a local oatmeal smoothie called
avena. Then you'll pick up some mouthwatering beef
empanadas served with slices of lime and zingy local salsa. There's just enough time to jump into one more seriously historic restaurant which has been serving hungry locals for almost two centuries. Here, you'll tuck into steamy leaf-wrapped chicken tamales with frothy hot chocolate. Sounds like a odd combo? It's good. Trust us.
Sign off the tour with an hour-long coffee workshop where you'll learn the ins and outs of coffee production from three different areas of Colombian, see various methods of steeping, sample three different coffees and discover why the country produces and roasts some of the finest beans in the world. Finish the tour stuffed like a
lechona pig with a deeper understanding of what Colombia food and eating culture is all about.

Andres is the best tour guide you can hope for. He went above and beyond to show me an excellent time. Andres has extensive knowledge of each dish and bogota itself. I wouldn’t waste time or money on the multiple Chaperino food tours and stick with this one. You’ll cover southern Chaperino, Santa Fe, and down to La Candelaria. Our host had a great knowledge of gastronomic science and history that really enriched the experience. A friendly Colombian who knows his way around food! We got to try a lot of different things with bits of information throughout, it really exceeded our expectations.

We booked Andres for other tours as well, he is a great guy and fabulous tour leader. Not just food, although I would say we covered the key 'categories' - but also we played tejo (nothing like the thrill of seeing the little triangle ignite and explode:-). Not just food, although I would say we covered the key 'categories' - but also we played tejo (nothing like the thrill of seeing the little triangle ignite and explode:-). I'm always impressed with a company who does not cancel when I am the only one scheduled client. Loved the way Andres wove in the history of how the current version of the Bogota food came to be through its Indigenous, Spanish or African roots. I only wish I had scheduled this for my first day in Bogota, as it gives you a very good idea of just off the tourist path places to go. i.e. the Ajiaco and hot chocolate we sampled were preferable to the one I had at 'la puerta falsa'. Do you wonder WHY they would ever start putting the cheese in the hot chocolate in the first place? This tour will give you the answer. Andres has very good English and is also very cognizant of picking 'sanitary' places to eat. I was able to schedule this through the Chase rewards booking portal, making it an even better value. Very satisfied with the experience (and I have done them all over the world).
