What to expect
This is a typical itinerary for this product
Pass By: Wien Mitte the Mall, Landstrasser Hauptstrasse 1B, Vienna 1030 Austria
The tour meeting point is Vienna's 'Wien Mitte' railway station (09:10 between Apr-Oct & 09:40 from Nov-Mar). Once we've met and introduced ourselves, we'll board a train southwards (approx 30 minutes) to the heart of the Vienna Woods.
Stop At: Vienna Woods, Vienna Austria
Summer
We begin our hike in the lovely spa town of Baden, once a favourite country retreat of Beethoven. We meander through the classic village centre and its gorgeous parks before hiking along forest trails towards a magnificent elevated viewpoint which overlooks the Vienna basin & the Wienerwald in all directions. This spot alone is a photographer's dream! We then enter the vineyards, wandering through row upon row of lush green vines. As reward for our efforts, we'll take a break sat among the vines for an open-air wine tasting.
Winter
Our train brings us directly to the vineyards of the Thermal Region and to one of Austria’s oldest wine making institutions, steeped in middle-age tradition and history. We'll discover how the monastic orders became wine pioneers of their time, develop an understanding of what has shaped the Austrian wine landscape over time, and consider in what direction it may be moving forward...with a welcome glass of sekt in your hand, of course!
Duration: 3 hours
Stop At: Gumpoldskirchen, Gumpoldskirchen, Lower Austria
Summer & Winter
We then continue to the picturesque wine village of Gumpoldskirchen to have lunch at one of its traditional Austrian wine taverns. Our second wine tasting takes place at one of the village's finest producers and is led by a local winemaker. This tasting allows for plenty of opportunities to ask questions regarding how wine is produced to give an intimate insight into the challenges facing vintners today.
The tour ends with a short train ride back to the city centre. You'll arrive to your hotel in plenty of time to freshen up before dinner, the opera, the theatre, or the concert! Whichever it is, you'll sleep well that night!
Duration: 5 hours

I went to Vienna with my BF during one of his work trips and decided to go on this wine tour by myself during one of his busy days while we were there and I am SO glad I did! It turned out to be the best day I spent in and around Vienna. The weather was absolutely perfect (this was late October), the vans were clean and nice, the tour was just the right amount of people, and James was an AWESOME tour guide. The small group tour was a perfect distance just outside Vienna to the Wachau Valley which I cannot wait to go back and see more of, it is simply gorgeous. During the wine tour we visited 3 wineries, had a wonderful lunch at one and even had some free time to venture around and do some hiking and wandering the streets in the nearby villages on our own. It was a great balance of group activities and free time to explore on your own. James was extremely knowledgeable about Austrian wines, culture, and facts and was an all around entertaining tour guide who made the entire day enjoyable for all. The wines (mostly all whites) were very enjoyable, easy to drink, and reasonable to purchase. My only complaint was that I didn't buy more wine than I did on the tour! I highly recommend doing this wine tour with your friends and family or even alone as I did. It was fantastic!
I booked this as a way to take advantage of glorious weather, taste some new wine and get out of the city on our longer trip. I booked this as a way to take advantage of glorious weather, taste some new wine and get out of the city on our longer trip. James was amazing- he met us bang on time and took care of everything. He was thoughtful, prepared, informative and funny. We had a short train trip during which he set the stage , explained the geography and characteristics of the wine region and set expectations for the walk and festivities. We disembarked in a storybook town, saw some historical points of interest and started our walk through some lovely woods. The walk was glorious with some slightly challenging parts- wear good shoes- but nothing six middle aged relatively fit people couldnt handle. We reached the high point quickly and then ambled agreeably through the vineyards, towards our lunch and tasting spot. The path is lovely, dotted with heurige tables and little spots where people drink in the summer. We had a fabulous Austrian lunch in a beautiful courtyard, complete with dog welcoming committee and then proceeded to a orovate tasting. Our winemaker host was informative and we really enjoyed his chemistry with his guests and his wine! James translated and provided very knowledgeable and accessible , unpretentious commentary. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and left with two boxes of wine packed for travel and a mission to return. Worth every penny and a splendid way to spend a day! Highly recommend! We really have fun and delicious food, lovely environment , I will love to come back again and invite more friends
