We started the day going to a medium-sized family-owned winery for a tour with beautiful views of the property and surrounding areas, and learned about the different variables that are taken into account for wine-making. The staff is clearly passionate about their craft, evident in their knowledge and flair in guiding us through tasting the types of wines offered. The second half of the tour was a larger winery which was also family-owned, with a great lunch and selection of wines. I was very lucky to have beautiful sunny weather, but also got unlucky with the amount of other unrelated groups that arrived, which made things a little busier than expected. Mateo is an excellent driver, who was patient and efficient but also friendly and informative of the local culture.I’ve taken wine tours all over the world, and this was one of the best! Veronica arranged to great wineries to visit, including a wonderful and relaxing lunch. Our driver Mateo was amazing as well. I highly recommend spending a day visiting wineries with Wine Explorers when you are in Montevideo!

Veronica and our guide Mateo were fabulous. They were professional, courteous, and communicated with us up to the day of our tour, confirming all the details. Mateo is a great driver (unlike the taxi drivers in Montevideo), punctual, but let us explore – we never felt rushed. Veronica set us up at two artisanal wineries and the experience at each resulted in lifelong memories. When the owner and winemaker delivers the tour of the vineyards and facilities, and then sits with you to taste the wine while you eat his homemade empanadas, that is an experience. When you get a personalized tour, a delectable lunch, and then can roam the vineyards by yourself with the winery’s dog Braulio, that is an experience. Veronica will set you up with those memories and experiences!
