My son and I had a wonderful time biking through the Wachau Valley with Jamie and Alexandra and 10 others. The meet up location was very easy to find and everyone immediately began greeting each other and becoming acquainted. Alexandra and Jamie were very nice to circulate throughout the day and get to know each of us. I think their friendly manner encouraged everyone. It was nice to have coffee and a croissant to snack on while taking the train out of Vienna. We were a little ahead of schedule before the train, so some were able to make purchases if they wanted a snack. Once we arrived at the train station, we took a bus to the city due to train track maintenance, although it sounded like that was not a frequent occurrence. We walked to pick up our bikes and off we went! We had a guide in front and a guide as caboose. Typically, they would have just one guide per group, but since it was the beginning of the season, we had two. We spent the day riding from town to town. Our guides have historical and cultural information as we rode along. We took frequent breaks along the way. The wine tastings were very nice. We tasted several wines - all were very good. We stopped for lunch about halfway through the day. Everyone at our table liked their meal. I had chicken salad - fresh greens with lightly breaded chicken on top that was piping hot. Others had goulash and wiener schnitzel. We took a different route back than on the way out, which was a treat. I recommend bringing a small snack for the ride back. The distance is manageable, but I was a bit tired about half way back. Be sure to bring a water bottle, too. You will be glad you have it! You can refill along the way at the wineries and at lunch. This was such a fun tour! We really enjoyed becoming acquainted with so many internationals. Our group was made up of tourists from America, UK, Denmark, Greece, China, and Canada. Thanks to Alexandra and Jamie for spending the day with us and keeping us on track! Bonus** don’t miss the ice cream once you drop off your bikes. It’s very tasty and especially good after a day on the bike trail. We can’t recommend this tour more to anyone wanting a memorable day on their Vienna trip. We can’t recommend this tour more to anyone wanting a memorable day on their Vienna trip. From the start we had a very warm welcome, our group was small of about 10 which felt very personable and got to know our hosts. We took the bus as there were some rail disruptions but it didn’t feel like a problem and the journey was very smooth. The entire cycle tour was beautiful, with incredible views of the river, stopping at various points to take photos and hear a bit of history about the area. At the first place we had around 4 wines, mostly whites and one rose, all delicious. The lunch spot was perfect, quick and tasty and we had a chance to explore the shops and historic blue church. On the second winery stop we had another 3/4 wines and sat outside in a lovely big garden amongst locals. We were made to feel very comfortable by both hosts, even though my partner and I rode close to the guide they would often stop to check the back of the group were all okay. The lanes are perfect for cycling - mostly quite smooth and wide. We were extremely lucky with the weather, sunny and warm the whole day, but had the weather been worse it still would have been a wonderful day. Although it’s a mostly flat journey, it’s worthwhile taking it easy on the journey there to preserve energy for the route home. Jamie was a fabulous host, very personable and fun. Would love to do it again! Ps we even managed to take a dip in the river - so wear shorts if it’s a warm day.Beautiful tour with great guides. Even though the weather was not great they made the most of it. Good wines and the stop at the local restaurant included a nice meal. Highly recommended.
