We saw plenty of whales. Some swam towards us as the boat sat idle. And we did get to see a couple jump and play around. I recommend this tour.

Not sure what I was expecting—maybe something that felt like a gimmick, I guess—but this was truly an amazing, worthwhile experience. Carlos, our guide, has earned the nickname “whale whisperer.” His passion for this bay and these animals is obvious (he was smiling the entire time). First of all, I feel like I learned so much about how whales behave, so that even we only saw one or two humpbacks from afar it would have been a good trip. But we saw at least eight whales, four mothers and four babies, and one huge mama whale came right up along side our boat. Even with three other boats in the area, this whale chose our little boat with nine passengers, as though it could sense the good intentions of the man in charge. We saw two whales actually breach the water, too, so, all in all, it was a very memorable morning.
