- WHAT TO WEAR: We provide a splash jacket to every customer free upon arrival at the launch site on our whitewater trips. The best clothes are ones that dry quickly. A bathing suit is usually the best way to start. Synthetic shorts or trunks and a light polyesteror other synthetic shirt are fine for warm days. Cool days require a bit more preparation. Always avoid heavy cotton clothing like jeans or sweat pants and sweatshirts. Cotton is extremely absorbent and will soak up all that river water, making you wet and cold. Synthetic clothing such as polar fleece, rash guards, exercise wear, thermal underwear, nylon jog pants, tights and polypro are your best choices when the weather is cooler and are all better choices than cotton. For maximum comfort on cooler days, a wetsuit may be the best choice. They’re available for rent at our office. Secure shoes are required for all trips. Wear shoes you don’t mind getting wet. Sneakers are fine and sandals are good on warmer days, but they must have a heel strap and stay on if you had to go for a swim. (no flip-flops or Crocs!) Neoprene booties are available for rent as well. We also recommend that you bring along some dry clothes to leave on the bus. They’ll be waiting for you there when you get off the river.

This was our first white water rafting trip as a family. From the moment I booked our reservation the staff was helpful, organized and communicated wonderfully. JJ was our raft guide on a small boat, he engaged with our teenage boys and was entertaining for our whole family. The snake river is a perfect river to learn how to raft and we highly recommend Lewis and Clark River Expeditions!Ben was an awesome guide! He was good at reading what the group wanted which for us was to get WET! Easily one of the funnest things I’ve done in Jackson. Would highly recommend the small boats if you want a more thrilling ride.

Tip, Rent the insulated clothing and bring dry clothes to change into. You will be soaking wet and it’s a long drive if you’re cold.

This is my fourth trip using Lewis and Clark. The previous ones were for a family reunion and two college reunion trips. This time, I booked a private boat for my family. It was a little more, but I wanted a better experience for my boys that are older now. L and C is the only independent rafting company left in the area and we enjoy them. The guides have great fish stories including the great wall of China one. Travis our guide this time was great. We got up to date reminders and the office staff was great. Go local and use Lewis and Clark! The lady that checked us in was not informative about clothes we needed. Quick to want to rent from them. The small raft was amazing!! Ask for Gavin he is a great guide!
