Stop At: Mdina, Mdina, Island of Malta
Mdina is a fortified medieval town enclosed in bastions, located on a large hill in the centre of Malta. The town was the old capital of Malta, and with its narrow streets, few inhabitants and beatuful views over the Island it is truly a magical town. Mdina is referred to as the “Silent City” by Maltese and visitors alike - no cars (except those of a limited number of residents) have permission to enter Mdina and the town provides a relaxing atmosphere among the visitors walking its narrow streets and alleyways.
Mdina has a small population of around 250 people who live at 0.9km2, within the city walls. In contrast, outside the city walls, the village of Rabat is just a step away, and has a population of over 11, 000 people. The medieval town of Mdina presents a mix of Norman and Baroque architecture and is the home to many palaces, most of which today serve as private homes. The large and striking Cathedral of the Conversion of St. Paul stands in the main square of the town.
Mdina was first inhabited and fortified around 700 BC by the Phoenicians and was at that time called Maleth. Mdina benefits from its good location on the island’s highest point, far away from the sea. Under the Roman Empire the Roman governor built his palace in Mdina and it is said that even St. Paul stayed there after he was shipwrecked in Malta.

Very nice wines and food platter served in a relaxing setting overlooking the vineyard by friendly people. Kenneth was a really nice driver/coordinator, and we appreciated seeing Mdina just before the big tour bus crowds descended.

We have been on many wine tours in France, Spain, Argentina and the Napa Valley. This was an exceptionally good tour! Our driver was great and took us down many back roads to see the real Malta. The charcutiere board at the wine tasting was the best we have ever had. The wines were surprisingly good, but do not expect high end Bordeaux quality. At the end of the tour our driver and guide gave my wife, roses, chococolates and a bottle of champgyne. Take this tour when in Malta, you will not regret it!They were attentive and super nice. They went back to the winery after dropping my wife and off to grab and return the purse she left. Super helpful

There was a lack of communication as to pickup but it got sorted albeit stressful and a bit late. The driver very nice but I was surprised he did not wear mask when I told him we had to be careful. All other drivers I’ve had in malta wear masks for consideration of people. I hoped the driver spoke fluid English ( as stated upon booking) but he had a hard time understanding a couple of my questions therefore very quiet in van. It was a nice van Good spots to see. Really enjoyed our time 1.5 hours Mdina and 15 minutes viewing the cliffs The winery was the best. The gal who toured us was very knowledgeable. The large charcuterie platter and plentiful wine tasting was enjoyable. Ride from winery was approx 25 minutes return. Our tour was 915-125. Nice half day tour but very expensive. In future I would take Bolt taxi to Mdina and cliffs. Then also arrange a taxi to winery and prebook a tasting. All sites are fairly close to VallettaMdina is a very cool city. Mdina is a very cool city. Good views at the cliffs. The air conditioned van was for transport was great because it is quite hot! There is not entry fee for Mdina or the cliffs so cost is only for wine tour and transportation. Our only upset was during the wine tour we did not receive the charcuterie platter with our wine tasting because it was not included in our package, which I did not know when booking. For the price per person, I feel like this should have been included. Otherwise the wine and tour was very good.
