The vineyards we went to were great, being able to try many different varietals of wine and the staff were also very friendly and welcoming. This trip is definitely recommended, especially if you want something a bit more special than your standard wine tour. A must do if you are in Queenstown or Wanaka. We didn't feel like we were on a tour, but rather hanging out with an old friend. The wineries were great and we all had a blast! The wines that we bought were excellent and didn't make it out of Queenstown lol! Mahalo Joe, for a fantastic day! Joe was a great tour guide who provided an informative commentary on South Island Maori culture which is different than the culture on the North Island. We also visited 3 small wineries in the Central Otago district which was unknown to us before the visit. Great pinot noirs as well as interesting pinot gris, riesling and sauvignon blanc wines. Great lunch. Great tour. Highly recommendWe had a great time on our wine tour with Joe! He was a very friendly guy and taught us a lot about the Maori Culture and founding history of New Zealand. This is a must-do tour for any trip to Queenstown. Joe picked us up and escorted us to three different Otago cellar doors: Akarua, Mt. Rosa, and Wet Jacket. The tastings were excellent, but Joe's friendliness and good humor were even better. From the initial Whaikorero greeting and hongi to his nuanced explanation of Maori concepts like mana and iwi, Joe ensured that our day was both entertaining and instructive. Because Joe is such a friendly regular visitor and not at all a jabroni, the winery staff were all very familiar with him. The generous number of tastings we wrestled with throughout the tour really made me arch my eyebrow. The second winery we visited (Mt. Rosa Wines) even provided a cheese platter from their kitchens--I could really smell what they were cooking. The tour was a major highlight of our trip to NZ. We feel that we had a friend in Joe who really made us feel welcome and who took the time to help us understand the spirit and importance of hospitality in Maori culture.
