It is a wonderful slice of life to enjoy: A family living on the same farm for generations, each member doing their part to grow, make, bottle and ship their wines. Inspiring, actually. Bravo!

Informative personal tour by the owner, who shared his passion for Sagrantino and his very interesting family history. We began in the vineyard and saw beautiful fall colors of the grapevines. He brought us inside the cantina where the “magic” happens. We learned about the wine making process and some of the requirements for making Sagrantino. Finally, we met Valentino’s wife and father and tasted three of their fine wines, including the excellent premium, Ennio Sagrantino, named for his father. We greatly enjoyed meeting the Valentini family, touring their vineyard, and tasting their fine wines. This should be at the top of your list of things to do in Umbria. This should be at the top of your list of things to do in Umbria. The views from this vineyard are absolutely outstanding and seem to stretch on for miles. The winery is run by a pair of brothers who decided to resuscitate the family vineyard in the not-so-distant past. Valentino is an incredible host with stories from traveling around the world to sell his wine. He also taught us a lot about the classifications of wine (and other delicious products) in Italy. This vineyard produces a couple of red and white wines including Montefalco Sagrantino, Montefalco Rosso, Montefalco Trebbiano Spolentino, and my new favorite, Montefalco Sagrantino Passito. I was particularly excited when I found these wines on the menu at a couple of restaurants we visited in Norcia, another incredible town in Umbria. While I always want to add more towns to my list, I know that we will definitely be back in Montefalco. We've gone on many winery tours but Valentino did a wonderful job of showing and telling us of the intricacies of wine making, care of the grapes, organic practices (the 4 little huts that confuse the bugs away-- amazing!) and finally a delicious tasting of 4 wines. We've gone on many winery tours but Valentino did a wonderful job of showing and telling us of the intricacies of wine making, care of the grapes, organic practices (the 4 little huts that confuse the bugs away-- amazing!) and finally a delicious tasting of 4 wines. And an opportunity to sample their delicious olive oil. Couple all that with interesting conversation with him and his family, it was a terrific afternoon on a beautiful location.
