I will be honest in that I did not expect to have such a fabulous time, but this blew my expectations away! We were a small group (6 people, plus our fearless leader/host), and it felt very personal. We did the Daytime sledding/snowshoeing/fondue experience. We were picked up at our hotel (which sounded very formal, but was actually just a passenger van and a very informal/comfortable situation -- I don't think there is the possibility of missing the bus - they would have waited for us), then brought to the Outdoor Interlaken storefront to sign waivers, use the bathroom and rent or buy any gear we might have needed (coats, hats, gloves, sunscreen, etc). We then were driven up to our first stop, taken up a gondola with the gear we needed, and given a crash course in snowshoeing. The area in which you snowshoe and (day)sled [night sledding is a different course] is a very small community/farm or set of farms. It was very idyllic and beautiful. Our group had a range of people who were comfortable and not incredibly comfortable with a lot of physical activity, and it never felt to me (as a middle-of-the-spectrum gal) that we were rushed or imposing by slowing down. I personally fell behind a couple times and never felt bad about it. Our host knew an incredible amount about the area in general, so it was lovely to get more than just a trek through some woods (not like a fairy tale forest hike, more like wandering in about 20m and then out by a different path -- which I mention bc I had an image in my mind of a Black Forest adventure, and it was more like a normal woodsy hike) and around some hills. It was gorgeous and informative. The fondue was the best I daresay I have ever had. SO FRESH and plenty of bread. BE FOREWARNED: the price includes (1) 8oz drink, not including beer. If you would like to have beer or additional drinks (you probably will!) bring cash, as they only accept cash on the mountain. Halfway through the snowshoe tour you get to refill your water bottle with freshwater from a stream (and it is so pure that it is not a concern for drinking). The sledding portion was my favorite part, but I am a sucker for sledding anyway. It is a very long (30min? 40?) hike to the top of the hill, but then a fun ride down. You get the option of running it again (which we did). Highly recommend a go-pro camera, it's a great "track" and we regretted not being able to record it ourselves since you need all hands to actually sled. If you are worried about being too out of shape for this, do not worry. If you can climb a few flights of stairs in a row, then this would be doable, as you can take everything at your own pace. Remember sunscreen and sunglasses! You will spend most of the day out in the sun during the 11am-2pm hours. This IS an all-day adventure. We got back just before dinnertime, as the sun was setting (~4:30/5pm), and other satellite activities around Interlaken are shutting down at that point. Also - So Many kudos to our host Anna, who really made this trip special. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!I went day sledding with Outdoor Interlaken and it was such a treat. We had a small group of only 4 of us which was very fun. Our tour guide, Sebastian, was beyond friendly and helpful. It was a great experience!
