Stop At: Adventure Airways, 3589 Brown Bear Loop, Homer, AK 99603
Board a Bush Plane at Homer Alaska Airport for a small-group trip to Katmai National Park & Preserve or Lake Clark National Park (depending on weather and Bear activity), both of which offer unparalleled bear-viewing opportunities. The exact location will change throughout the season as Alaska's coastal brown bears follow their food source, which moves from sedge meadows and clamming in the spring to chasing wild salmon later in the summer.
Fly past glaciers and volcanoes en route to your destination Upon landing, prepare to hike up to 3 miles (4.8 km) over uneven, soft, or muddy terrain to views of grizzlies roaming and hunting for food in their natural environment — sightings guaranteed.
You'll spend approximately 3 hours on the ground in this wild bear habitat and learn from your guide about safe viewing practices along the way. Then hop back aboard your aircraft for the return flight to Homer
Please note: fish products and bear spray of any kind are prohibited on this tour.

Superlative! We were originally scheduled to go to Katmai but the fog prevented us from flying there and being able to safely depart. So Adventure Airways happily refunded us our $ but then suggested an alternative trip to Lake Clark National Park. We took that trip, and it turned out better than the one we originally wanted. The flight was short and well executed. Once we arrived, we saw at least six bears, including a mother and her three cubs frolicking on a beach, all from the comfort of a private and well-outfitted pontoon boat. We saw a juvenile bald eagle and multiple other birds. And of course, many salmon. Our guide Jessica Gable (based in Readout Mountain Lodge) was great too. Very informative and accommodating. For lunch they served us fresh cought sockeye salmon (which was amazing), rice and salad. Though they did check whether we had any dietary restrictions in advance. Would 100% recommend to anyone, especially families with kids who may complain about hiking long distances but still want to see bears.Booked this last minute as a way to spend our last day in Alaska before heading home. Booked this last minute as a way to spend our last day in Alaska before heading home. Positives: We saw bears! Trent had a nice facility, the airplane was clean and comfortable, he’s very nice and has a great smile. Most importantly, we had a lot of confidence in his piloting skills and felt safe with him when close to the bears. Negatives: I feel like this trip is overpriced. We did a Denali glacier landing tour for 1/2 the price and that was breathtaking. Although enjoyable, I don’t think it’s worth $850/person after tax. I’d do it again if it was closer to $300/person or I’d just suggest skipping. Trent might have been having a bad day but he seemed a little bored. He had a lot of facts about the bears but you had to ask him to get them. On the flight over and back he didn’t do a great job of providing a narrative of the surrounding areas or a 411 on the bears - it was a silent ride. He didn’t appear to be a bear enthusiast although I 100% appreciated how calm he was around them. I’m guess glad I did it but for $1,736.40 for 2 ppl, I would have rather done something else (or a lot of other things to total the same price). Also worth noting, he has a float plane and a regular plane and will use whichever makes sense for the area that has the most bears. If you’re like me and really want a float plane ride, I’d suggest calling ahead to confirm.Martin is the sole owner and operator and he is both knowledgeable and passionate about providing a first class bear viewing experience. Martin is the sole owner and operator and he is both knowledgeable and passionate about providing a first class bear viewing experience. Having operated his business for over a decade he knows the area extremely well and takes one to the best place to see bears where one has less chance of encountering many other groups. We felt safe flying with him as he is focused, has over 40 years flying experience and is fastidious about safety. Martin is a keen photographer and provides opportunities to photograph the bears with the most favorable lighting and composition. He is patient and caring so one can enjoy the experience without feeling rushed. At the end of a magical few hours in which we were fortunate to encounter numerous up close bears, he flew us over the surrounding glaciers and volcanoes before heading back. The perfect conclusion to a memorable and extraordinary experience. This was a wonderful trip! One of kind of experience you can’t miss! Trent is very nice and we enjoyed so much! He is so nice with my little one, answered all the questions. And we feel safe all the time.

What an experience!! Our family of two adults and one teen were first booked with another company who ended up not being able to take us. So they connected us with Trent at Adventure Airways and we were THRILLED with how things turned out. First, Trent is very personable. That alone makes you enjoy your trip and gives you confidence since he is also the pilot. The plane was clean and well-cared for. Now for the trip. We flew across the bay and landed on a beach at Lake Clark National Park. There was a bear right there clamming and we got to enjoy him for a while. We then walked a short distance to view bears grazing in a meadow. Throughout, Trent was very good at providing us education about the bears, their habits and habitats, as well as some of the plant life. In addition he brought a tripod with a mounted scope so we could see some bears even closer. Overall, we saw about 20-25 bears. It was fantastic! No, we did not see them catching/eating salmon but it was not the season for it yet. But they are fascinating to watch no matter what they are doing. Highly Highly Highly recommend this company!
