Sea Kayaking in Navarino Bay

- Qualified BC 3-5 Star sea kayak leader who also holds first aid certificate.
- Picnic with freshly baked bread fruits and vegetables, homemade olive oil, and cheese

What to expect
Our trip starts at Divari beach. Your guide will brief you on paddling techniques, safety measures, and equipment. Soon we shall hop on our kayaks for a trip around the Navarino bay like never before. We start paddling overlooking the town of Pylos and the Niokastro fort. Heading towards the imposing monolithic islet located at the south side of the bay, we visit the impressive natural stone arch. The islet is also a place of nesting and resting place for many species of birds. Weather permitting, we can circumnavigate it and visit a few of its sea caves, tunnels and arches. Our next stop is the unhabituated island of Sphacteria. Here, we jump out of our kayaks, stretch our legs and walk to the island’s viewpoint for taking pictures of an idyllic landscape and for story-telling. After some kayaking we shall make a stop at a secluded beach for swimming and snorkeling, and why not some cliff diving for those who feel more adventurous. Here we shall also taste our homemade picnic of local delicacies and relax under the sun. After this energy pumped stop, we will paddle back to the starting point to end an amazing day in the tranquility of the Navarino Bay.

- Children must be accompanied by an adult
- The activity includes a 30 minutes preparation time, 2 to 2.5 hours paddling exploration, 1 to 1.5 hours free time for picnic, relaxation, snorkelling, swimming, diving and other activities.
- Not wheelchair accessible
- We recommend you take with you: water, hat, sun cream, towel, swimsuit, extra pair of shoes that will get wet. Suitable shoes are lightweight trainers, flip flops, sandals or sea shoes. Avoid bulky shoes.
- Please note we reserve the right to modify or cancel any outdoor activity due to bad weather or technical difficulties.

We did not manage to get to the meeting point in time, but our guide Fotis was very helpful and patiently explained to us by mobile phone how to join the group and everything turned out well. After a short useful as well as funny instruction, we got into a kayak and set off. The first stop at the wooden church was spiced up by our guide with the story of the Battle of Navarina Bay, and at the second stop, in addition to swimming in the turquoise waters of the cove, we also received good refreshments. Our guide was nice and warmhearted and we also got some good tips for next days of our trip around the Peloponnese. Although I am not a huge fan of the sea and I didn't have much experience with kayaking before, I really enjoyed this excursion. The team leader explained everything to us before we started, and during the trip he was always making sure we were safe and enjoying the experience. We saw many beautiful places in the area, which only locals know and learned a lot about the history of the place. That was our first visit to the area and as we travelled together with children (16 and 10 y.o.) we were looking for some activities that would allow us to explore the area. And Explore Messinia will definitely help you to find out a lot about the place and combine physical activities and some historical sightseeing. That`s a fantastic combination for family vacation. For us it was a first experience in kayaking but we`ll surely repeat it with Explore Messinia next time. Both of our guides two Georges did everything that everyone in the group would have fun and get a maximal of positive emotions from the adventure! Very motivating and patient, sharing interesting historical facts and handling all logistics issues - that`s all about Georges.
